Cleveland Park

3504 Connecticut Ave, NW

From a press release:

“Diane Gross and Khalid Pitts, owners of Cork Wine Bar, are proud to announce the expansion of their wine bar and market to Cleveland Park. The husband-and-wife team’s newest project will be located at 3504 Connecticut Ave NW, with a targeted opening of early Fall 2025. The third Cork location follows the 17-year-old flagship on 14th Street NW and an outpost in Spring Valley, which opened in 2021. “We are excited to join the Cleveland Park community,” says Gross. “We are looking forward to meeting our new neighbors and seeing old friends and regulars, and introducing them to the new Cork, a neighborhood place where guests can gather to enjoy good food, excellent company, and delicious wine.”

Cork Cleveland Park will have 20 seats in its street-level wine bar and retail area, a mezzanine-level tasting room with an additional 15 seats for wine classes, (more…)

Pets

“Dear PoPville,

I’m reaching out to share a pressing public safety concern that recently came to light in our community.

Incident: A dog tragically died after ingesting Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) in the courtyard of a luxury apartment complex in Shaw.

Goose

The Issue: This plant is known to be highly toxic to pets, with even small amounts causing fatal reactions. Despite this, it’s commonly used in landscaping across DC, including in areas frequented by pets and children.

We have garnered almost 400 signatures on our petition since we launched it yesterday.

What the Helen of Troy is This

A few folks have been asking:

“Any idea why there have been blocks and blocks of police vehicles (with lights) on Connecticut Ave NW since early this morning? From Calvert to the zoo.”

“Police have lined connecticut ave and the side streets all day – must be at least 15 cars dispersed through Woodley Park? Does anyone know why?”

It is very likely related to World Bank/IMF spring meetings. Dignitaries staying at hotels, travel to and fro et al.

From MPD:

“On Sunday, April 20 until Saturday, April 26, 2025, the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings detail will take place in the District of Columbia. (more…)

Truly magnificent.

Event

The Triumph Trek at the Rio is the ultimate celebration of strength, recovery and hope — and everyone is invited.

On Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation and Adventist HealthCare Home Care Services will gather at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg for an untimed walk-or-wheel around the accessible lakeside path. This is not a race. Scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and every pace are welcome, and no one finishes last.

“Dear PoPville,

I found an engagement-type ring in the dirt in front of Dance Place in Brookland earlier this month. (Around April 5th.) I have posted in the Brookland DC Facebook group and on DC reddit and have had no luck at finding the owner. The consensus seems to be it is definitely not costume jewelry. Sharing here as a last resort trying to find the owner!
