“La Famosa, a tribute to the vibrant, flavorful cuisine of Puerto Rico, will open in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC. The all-day, “fine-casual” restaurant will serve lunch and dinner alongside an extensive coffee program and full bar. The brainchild of Chef Joancarlo Parkhurst, La Famosa is a nod to the Caribbean island where he was born. Located at 1300 4th Street, SE in The Bower, the restaurant is expected to open in Spring 2020. Meaning ‘The Famous One’, La Famosa is the name of the Puerto Rican canning food company which Parkhurst’s family founded in 1921. It’s famous for Coco López, a key ingredient in the piña colada. “A man was observed chopping down a neighborhood tree this morning with a full sized axe.
When I asked him to stop from my 2nd floor porch he ran at my building threatening me and my dogs with the axe.
He has been outside my building watching us ever since and followed one of the other residents from the building to his uber, where he threatened that person, telling him that he knew where we lived.
For the next hour he kept throwing a bike into traffic on 17th st, trying to cause an accident.
Police were contacted, did a drive by, and then did nothing else. (more…)
“We hate to have to write this, but we need to let the Civil Lounge family know, that this Thursday, September 26, 2019 will be the final night of service at Civil Cigar Lounge. Over the last 7 years we have had the pleasure of creating one of the best cigar lounges for our guests. We have had some exceptional staff, that provided good, comfortable service to a growing clientele both new-comers and regulars. We will truly miss that interaction.
The Chevy Chase Pavilion had chosen to go in a different direction after losing other service and retail tenants over the last two years. We fought to stay as long as we could, using all legal means at our disposal, but our final hearing didn’t go our way. So we are at the end of this particular road.
We are exploring new opportunities to bring Civil back within the District of Columbia. (more…)
