Thanks to all who passed on from Pearl’s Bagels:

“The good news is that we finally received our building permits for Pearl’s Bagels and we start construction on the space next week. The bad news is that construction takes time…so it’ll still be a few months before we’re open. But fear not, we are now baking out of Union Kitchen and can take catering orders of any size. Start spreading the news!”

STAY TUNED.

Event

DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.

The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

13 years!!?!! My goodness time seriously does fly. Remember the 3 year anniversary party at Wonderland? That was legendary but this one is fixing to be pretty sweet too. It’s gonna be upstairs at Moreland’s Tavern (14th/Kennedy and Colorado Ave, NW) from 6:30pm-10:30pm and perhaps a bit longer if I’m recovered from World Series watching. We’re even kicking a DJ this year – my man Eric will be spinning a pretty solid rotation of the Beastie Boys and 99 Luftballoons. In other words – it’s gonna be lit.

It’s been a hell of a ride my friends. Lots of ups and downs and highs and lows and fear and fun and love and learning. In other words – life. And I just want to take the opportunity to thank all of you for continuing to make it possible. Whether you are a reader, a commenter, a lurker or just follow us on social media – you are part of the PoPville community – hell – you are PoPville and I couldn’t do this without you.

For those who have been kind enough to support us financially – I can’t tell you how much it means to me. When I struck out on my own over 10 years ago (worked two jobs the first three years) – I had no idea if this was going to be viable. I had no business plan or anything like that – I just had the passion to cover our neighborhoods in a new way. Leaving my full time job I would have no benefits – no sick leave – no vacation – no nothing. Just faith that it would work. And against all odds it has. But it’s not just faith that makes it possible. By becoming a patreon you help ensure that this site will keep going for at least the next 17 years.

We are a huge local community. If a tiny percentage of those who are able can give even just $2 a month – it can make a world of difference. If you enjoy our posts, our rants and raves, our tweets, our takes, our sweet city rides, our scuttlebutt, our hawks and of course Earl the white whale, our advice, our multi modal corgis, our breaking news, our community – please do consider becoming a supporter. Thank you. For those who are not able – I truly understand and it is OK. We will make it work.

Now we celebrate 13 years – let’s get ready to party – Thursday, November 7th – Moreland’s Tavern – it is on!!!
