From the office of the DC Attorney General:
“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today filed a lawsuit to stop the federal government’s illegal deployment of National Guard troops in the District of Columbia. Since the President’s August 11 announcement, nearly 2,300 National Guard troops, including units from seven states, have been deployed to the District and placed under the command of the Department of Defense. These deployments amount to an involuntary military occupation that far exceeds the President’s authority over the National Guard. In addition, most or all of the troops have been deputized by the US Marshals Service to conduct law enforcement activities in the District, in violation of the foundational prohibition on military involvement in local law enforcement. DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.
The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

“Dear PoPville,
It looks like Planta Cocina on 14th and P seems to be closed. I walked by on my way to Whole Foods the other day, noticed it was dark, and thought, oh, maybe it’s the one day they’re closed. Walked by on the way to WF tonight and it was completely dark AGAIN. When I went to make a reservation for next Thursday, the option for Planta Cocina had been removed (but not for Planta Queen). Can you look into this and see what the deal is?”
