Remembering

Kuna shares the heartbreaking reminder after yesterday’s statistics:

Our family has been hoping and praying that “37-yr male” would get better. Seeing him in the daily count is painful. A reminder that these ages and genders belong to real people whose families and friends are heartbroken in what has already been the hardest of times for so many.

Thanks to Heather for asking about good spots to see The Great Conjunction.

John responds: “Any place with a clear view of the southwest horizon. A ballfield. A large parking lot. A rooftop deck. The Washington Monument hill.”

Ben notes: “You can see it easily from inside the beltway- light pollution doesn’t really factor into planetary viewing. The problem though is the weather- it’s supposed to be cloudy”

Another Bike Commuter suggests: “Shenandoah National Park- somewhere on Skyline Drive”

Any other suggestions for good spots to get a peek?

From NASA:

For those who would like to see this phenomenon for themselves, here’s what to do:

Find a spot with an unobstructed view of the sky, such as a field or park. Jupiter and Saturn are bright, so they can be seen even from most cities.

An hour after sunset, look to the southwestern sky. Jupiter will look like a bright star and be easily visible. Saturn will be slightly fainter and will appear slightly above and to the left of Jupiter until December 21, when Jupiter will overtake it and they will reverse positions in the sky.

The planets can be seen with the unaided eye, but if you have binoculars or a small telescope, you may be able to see Jupiter’s four large moons orbiting the giant planet.” (more…)
