Thanks to Brant for sending from Brookland: “All this rain is good for the tomatoes, though the peppers are producing also.”

Please send your great garden hauls via email to [email protected] with Garden Haul in the subject line and let me know what you’ve grown and what neighborhood you are in. Entries will be accepted through Labor Day. Cheers, thanks and happy gardening! Great Garden Haul is made possible, ironically, by the Friends of the White Whale Society.

“This is Shadow on our roof deck and looking back at me – hey daddy, don’t worry, I am not eating your plants!

FYI – The collar is a soft, cloth inflatable collar she wears when she goes outside on the roof deck so she doesn’t run to other decks. It doesn’t hurt anything but her soul and kitty freedom to the streets of dc :)”

“Dear PoPville,

Shot in the dark —

About 25 years ago I was living in NW DC (16th & U), working as a bartender at Julio’s. In my travels, I came upon an older Russian (or Eastern European) homeless man; very disheveled and with a big scraggly beard. I may have run into him in the Adams Morgan area. I had heard that he was an artist, so I struck up a conversation and in fact he was! I ended up buying a piece from him that has been with me ever since. I never saw him again. (more…)

Barber/Hair Salon

“Dear PoPville,

Given all the reports of bars, restaurants, and gyms requiring COVID vaccinations, has anyone heard of any hair salons, massage places, nail salons, or other personal care services requiring vaccination – whether that’s requiring it of their staff and/or requiring it of customers? Would like to know what places are safer for me to patronize.”
