“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping you might share posts like this – near the Quick Stop on 14th and Euclid I found (for once) someone’s important lost jewelry. The wedding ring looks like it’s been worn for many many years, but also looks like it’s been out on the ground for a while as it’s muddy from the recent storm.

I got it out of the rain and safe, it’s somewhat distinct in design so if the owner can reach out and describe it I’d be happy to return it to its owner.

Thanks!”

If you think it’s yours please email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

We’re taught to show up. To be strong. To handle it. But what happens when “handling it” means you’re falling apart at 2 AM? What happens when the pressure to be okay becomes the thing that’s not okay?

This is what we’re not talking about enough:

  • The 18-year-old scrolling Instagram and feeling like their life doesn’t measure up
  • The 65-year-old who lost their routine and feels invisible
  • The person who cries in their car before work
  • The friend who seems fine but isn’t sleeping
  • You, right now, reading this and wondering if it’s normal to feel this way

It is. And you’re not broken for feeling it.

Mental health isn’t about being “sick” or “crazy.” It’s about being human. It’s about the weight we carry—from grief, stress, loneliness, uncertainty, change. It’s about those days when getting out of bed feels impossible. And it’s about knowing that these feelings don’t have to be forever.

Here’s what we want you to know:

  • Your feelings are valid. You don’t need anyone’s permission to struggle or to seek help.
  • Help is accessible. Whether it’s talking to someone you trust, calling a lifeline, or seeing a therapist—resources exist. And they’re easier to reach than you think.
  • You’re not the only one. Millions of people in DC and beyond are navigating this. The shame? That’s the stigma talking. Not the truth.
  • Small steps count. One conversation. One call. One moment where you choose yourself. That’s everything.

If you’re struggling, reach out:

  • 988 Lifeline: Call or text 988 (24/7)
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
  • Find local DC support: [link to resources]

Your story matters. Your struggles are real. And your recovery is possible.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to reach out to the kind people who helped me at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and North Rhodes in Arlington this afternoon (Saturday around 2-3pm) when I tripped on the sidewalk and fell full tilt onto the pavement. Still not sure what went wrong and I’m okay (though a little banged up and sore). The young lady in the SUV who jumped out and offered to call 911 was great and much appreciated. Thankfully, my injuries did not require this. Also, the two gentleman who helped me up and made sure I was okay. They were truly great! It is encouraging in today’s world that people still step up and look out for one another. I am truly thankful. A blessing to them!”

“Dear PoPville,

I took these pictures of Friday evening’s storm from the roofdeck of my Dupont Circle apartment building (20th & N). They are pictures of what looked to my untrained eye at the time like a tornado.

The first pic (taken at 7:19) shows the funnel cloud in the far right on the horizon (you can see the Cathedral at the very edge of the photo, which is directly northwest from my building). The second pic (taken at 7:22) caught the funnel cloud after it emerged on the right side of the Cathedral. (more…)

Thanks to Peter for documenting the action for us over the weekend. “New awning going up on the old Mr. Chen’s Organic Chinese in Cleveland Park (used to be green.) Front door is open and inside you can see brand new lit up signage said “Haru Wok and Roll” before you turn left into the restaurant.”: (more…)
