“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a vehicular homicide resulting from a hit and run that occurred on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the intersection of 14th and K Street, Northwest.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 12:54 am, the driver of a Acura TLX was traveling north bound, at high rate of speed north, in the 900 block of 14th Street, Northwest. The Acura proceeded through a red traffic light at the intersection of 14th and K Street, Northwest, and collided with a Hyundai Elantra, which was traveling east bound on K Street NW. Update from MPD: “Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit announce an arrest has been made in a traffic fatality involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred on Sunday, June 13, 2021, in the 1500 block of 14th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 3:14 am, a Honda Civic mounted the ride side of the curb at the listed location. The vehicle then struck a pedestrian on a sidewalk at a Metro bus shelter. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.!–more–> The driver of the Honda Civic remained on scene.

The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

On Sunday, June 13, 2021, 29 year-old Gerald Lewis, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Murder II, Driving Under the Influence, and Reckless Driving.”

“The Fourth District is investigating an Unlawful Discharge of a weapon that occurred on June 12, 2021, at approximately 4:05 pm in the 900 block of Longfellow Street NW. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact the Fourth District at 202-727-9099 or Text 50411.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District seek the public’s assistance identifying a suspect in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the 4100 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest.

At approximately 12:08 am, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was captured by a surveillance camera and can be seen in the photos below:

Anyone who can identify this individual or has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.”

Ashley reports: “Wheels and airbag taken overnight. Walgreens parking lot at Rhode Island Avenue and Franklin NE in Brookland. Honda was specifically targeted. 10 other cars parked next to this one were not touched.”

“Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announces the completion of construction of a new red-light enforcement camera at the Interstate 695 off ramp (ramp D) at Northbound 11th Street SE. This automated traffic enforcement camera will be installed to reduce the number of angle collisions, red light running, and improve overall safety at the intersection. The camera will be activated June 7.
