Lily reports:

“Spotted on public sidewalk in DC. Never seen a can’t walk dog sign before, even for private property. It’s near the housing administration building on M & N Capitol. But it’s not posted ON any property.”

I’ve never seen a sign like this either. It looks like a city sign though. Anyone ever see a sign like this before? Anyway, doesn’t seem like it can be enforced but still odd.

A reader reports:

“At around 9:30 AM my husband and I spotted a beautifully colored, exotic-looking bird on the fence surrounding the Turkey Thicket recreation center track in Brookland, NE DC. Looks like it was someone’s escaped pet bird. Near the intersection of Quincy and Michigan NE. We called animal control but the bird flew away before animal control arrived.”

“This morning this little guy found me and my dog I think between 7th and 8th Streets on Longfellow NW and followed us all the way to the farmers market and back. He seems healthy but he doesn’t have a collar and he has not been neutered.

We plan to take him by Humane Rescue Alliance on Oglethorpe to see if he’s chipped or there have been inquiries.”

If you recognize this guy contact [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

“Bully mix found at 38th and Garfield NW last night. Animal control brought her to Humane Rescue. She’s super sweet and friendly. Most likely under a year old. I called Humane Rescue this morning and they said she wasn’t chipped.”

From District Dogs:

District Dogs, a locally-owned pet care company founded in 2014, is heading south… Southeast, that is. Owner Jacob Hensley and his energetic team of dog walkers and daycare attendants are expanding their reach to the thriving Navy Yard neighborhood. [1221 Van Street SE]

With over four years of doing a brisk dog-walking business and almost two years of providing daycare and boarding services at their Park View location, the move marks District Dogs’ first foray outside of Northwest DC. (more…)

UPDATE:

“We have been reunited with Mr. Midnight thanks to the posting. A super woman that happened to be in the neighborhood fixing a flat tire on her bike (after completing the 50 States Ride) found him hanging around near Patrick’s Pet Care and went above and beyond to make sure he was safe. Thanks so much again for the quick response. I’m truly grateful to you and the amazing DC Community!!”

“Dear PoPville,

Our sweet dog Mr. Midnight snuck out last night and is missing. (more…)

And so it goes with the closing of the outdoor pools for humans – the pups get their turn before the pools are drained:

“Mayor Bowser’s administration and DC Department of Parks and Recreation will host the 10th Annual Doggie Day Swim on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upshur Main & Kiddie Pool (4300 Arkansas Ave., NW); Francis Pool (25th & N St., NW); and Randall Pool (South Capitol and I Sts., SW).

The end of the outdoor swimming season signifies the District’s dog day of summer and this event gives our four-legged neighbors access to DPR pools for the day to enjoy a swim and play fun aquatics games.

Admission is free, however all dogs must have a valid and original DC Department of Health (DOH) issued dog license (no photocopies) and tag to enter the pool. (more…)
