From MPD Monday:
“Earlier today, members of the Fifth District responded to a call in the 1700 Block of H St NE for a call for service for a dog attacking a citizen. A 5D Sergeant arrived on scene and was advised that an adult male was inside of the location and was being mauled by the family dog. The member took immediate action and entered the premises. The victim as found inside of the location and was actively being mauled by the dog. The member deployed his departmentally issued Electronic Control Device (TASER) on the dog in an attempt to halt the attack on the victim. The first Taser deployment caused the dog to retreat, but the dog attempted a second attack on the victim. The member deployed his Taser a second time and the dog retreated into a bedroom at the location. The dog was then barricaded in a room until additional assistance arrived. The victim is currently being treated at an area hospital for serious injuries to the torso and arm that were sustained in the attack. Sgt. Ferretti is to be commended for his swift and decisive actions!”
A reader writes us:
“I had called the police and animal control just 9 days ago on this dog because it attacked another dog last weekend and said it was aggressive and I was scared for the neighborhood. I called 9-1-1 because the pit had gotten free from the house and attacked a husky walking by with a woman. the husky was severely injured. the woman was screaming for help and the owner never even left his doorway.
I had been in contact with an investigator from animal control about the dog and feeling unsafe.
I’m just disturbed that this could have been prevented.
I hope the man is okay.”
