Back in October we noted Potbelly had closed for renovation in north Dupont. Thanks to all who sent emails. One reader notes:

“I know there was mention about renovations being done at the Potbelly’s just north of Dupont. However, they’ve since taken down all the awnings and signage.

I think this renovation is more like the Chinatown affair, i.e. Potbelly’s is out and a whole new restaurant is in.

I hope not, cuz I really liked the Dupont Potbelly.”

Beautiful!

From a press release:

“Per the Jewish tradition, DGS will be serving a Chinese banquet on Christmas (Eve).

Like good Jews, the DGS team grew up eating Christmas dinner (and every other Sunday dinner) at our local Chinese restaurant. Chef Barry Koslow frequented Peking Gourmet in Falls Church. Barry’s family visited the restaurant so often that they developed a friendship with the owners (and eventually did business together), ordered off the menu (Uncle Charlie’s hot peppers were a must at every dinner) and the maestro, Mr. Wu always carved their duck (he was the restaurant’s top slicer for decades). The restaurant has now become a regular meeting place for the team at DGS.

In this spirit, DGS will be hosting a Chinese banquet on Christmas Eve (12/24 from 5pm-9:30pm). The menu mixes classic delicatessen ingredients with Cantonese Chinese food. Here’s the menu (more…)

In 2010 it was awesome. Looks like viewing the World Cup at Dupont Circle is coming back for 2014 (knock wood, knock wood) – ‏@AaronDeNu tweets:

“Officially announced intentions to bring World Cup Soccer to Dupont Circle @ #ANC2B. FIFA paperwork submitted & NPS arrangements underway…”

Ed. Note: USA! USA! and if USA doesn’t advance – Allez Les Bleus!!

Thanks to a reader for sending. From Keegan Theatre’s website:

“A New Keegan Theatre is on the way.
Keegan has always been about people. The community of actors, directors and designers who define us. The many donors who have sustained us over the years. And the audiences whose growth has been a constant vote of confidence. We are truly in good company!

Now these folks and the broader Washington community are helping us renovate and purchase the theater we call home. Several large donors have put the project in motion. But relying on just a few wouldn’t be The Keegan Way. That’s why we’re inviting our thousands of friends and supporters to be the heart of our vision.

Thanks to generous donations, we are halfway to our $4 million dollar goal to fully modernize the Church Street Theater.”

Cove Photo 1

From a press release:

“Washington, D.C.-based cove has launched its Dupont Circle Productive Space, giving modern professionals, knowledge workers and grad students a compelling alternative to working from a crowded coffee shop or their lonely living room.

For the price of a latte, cove members can be productive with company for the afternoon – and the coffee comes included.

Following the opening of cove-Dupont Circle, the start-up will unveil additional Productive Spaces in neighborhoods across Washington in the coming months, providing a network of locations to work, meet and collaborate. The second site, on D.C.’s thriving 14th Street, is slated to open in mid-December.

Each cove location has all the essential tools for productive work – Wi-Fi, color printing, scanning and conference rooms, along with free beverages – in a clean, comfortable environment that is professional and quiet, yet also social.

Cove Founder Adam Segal says that he created cove with his own work habits in mind.

“I’ve worked from home, an office, and in a bunch of coffee shops – and I was actually never quite good in any of them,” Segal says. “I sought a new kind of space, one that combined all the tools with a friendly feel. A place to be productive, but also to interact, chat and connect, with more flexibility and mobility than being tied to a single desk. The name Productive Space sums it up: a place with the right combination of tools, people and atmosphere for being productive in the neighborhood.”

Cove is free for first-time visitors; after that, members sign up for a monthly membership plan based on their needs. Member plans range from $24 a month for eight desk hours and one conference room hour – or the price of five lattes – to $124 a month for 50 desk hours with four conference room hours.

Through the cove Web site and mobile Web app, members can check availability in advance and even reserve space ahead of time for an individual desk, group desk or conference room – or just drop in as they wish.”

The Logan Circle space will be located at 1624 14th Street NW above Barcelona Wine Bar:

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been working on helping my elderly neighbor Ralph move home for about 3 years now. Having exhausted all options, I started a crowdfunding campaign. It’s a huge longshot and will take a modern day miracle, but I can’t just sit by and not try to help him. He has no family and the DC system has done nothing but throw up barriers.”

Bring Ralph Home:

“Meet Ralph. He is 80 years old, he’s a Navy veteran who served in the Korean war, he’s a widower, a homeowner and longtime resident of the District of Columbia. He never had children and has no remaining family. Until December 2010, he lived quite happily in his tiny, one room apartment in a small coop building in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.

In December 2010, Ralph became ill and was taken to the hospital, where he soon recovered. Rather than allowing him to return home, he was moved to a care facility where he has remained ever since. However, Ralph is healthy and has been cleared to return home. All Ralph wants is to go home. Unfortunately, Ralph has become tangled in the safety net and is now mired in a financial and legal mess. His story has become like a bad dream and he needs our help.”
