From the Adams Morgan Listserv:

“Someone must have lost there rather large, well fed, and very tame pet rat, found on Belmont near Columbia RD. It has a much bigger face then the pet rats I have seen before, but also has the identifying tail. If this is yours pleas give a description of color for its return. Our kitties have been inquisitive but not to interested, since it is not a sewer rat it is not a good kill for them. Still pretty sure it’s a rat.”

A little over a month ago we learned a new Japanese restaurant would be taking over the Smoothie King space on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. I stopped in for a peek earlier this week and was told if all goes well they’ll be open next week. They also confirmed that they will be specializing in Donburi:

“a Japanese “rice bowl dish” consisting of fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice.”

It’s a small space dominated by a huge bar. I’ll update with an exact opening date when it is known.

Back in March we noted the former Yoga Chai space was for lease in Adams Morgan. They’ve now got a new tenant – Le Bustiere. Their website says:

“Le Bustiere is a fresh European inspired lingerie boutique offering diverse brands, styles and sizes that are currently unavailable in Washington DC.

Our mission is to give the intimate apparel enthusiasts what they are looking for, whether it is fit, comfort or style, in an atmosphere that is luxurious and exciting. I want to create a connection with the Intimate Apparel Enthusiast that evokes the feeling that Le Bustiere is “my lingerie store.”

We offer a variety of services which include free bra fitting, bridal & lingerie parties.”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to make you and your readers aware of a car jacking that took place yesterday on Biltmore St. NW between 18th and 19th St. It occurred around noon. Of interest is that the two car jackers were clearly and obviously staking out of area for 20 to 30 minutes beforehand. Only when they spotted an opportune target – a women alone in her car with the engine idling – did they act. They opened the door of the car, pulled the women out, and drove away East towards Columbia. The car jackers were two black males, approximately 6 ft. tall, medium build. One of them was dressed in blue jeans, a striped polo shirt and a black jacket. They stole a 2012 charcoal gray BMW X5 SUV. The police were notified twice first when the two men were spotted moving from house to house watching residents come and go and then again immediately after the theft.

This crime was obviously premeditated and thought out carefully. I believe it is reasonable to assume they will try again.”

Will Adams Morgan follow in the footsteps of U Street…?

“Dear PoPville,

Say “goodbye” to the Three Macaws mural on Columbia Rd. NW. Due to the redevelopment of the former Ontario Theater by Peterson Companies, the nearly 20-year-old mural will be destroyed with the demolition of the building. The beautiful piece of art will join the several other murals that have been lost or damaged recently in Adams Morgan.

I exchanged messages with the project manager and learned that “the mural cannot be preserved under the plans that were approved by the Board of Zoning Adjustment.” The artist, G. Byron Peck, is aware of the mural’s fate and was given the piece’s dedication plaque by the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District.”

Ed. Note: G. Byron Peck is also the artist who is recreating his famous Duke Ellington Mural on U Street.

Yesterday we learned the mural from the side of 1830 14th St, NW was also coming down.
