Thanks to Mike for sending: “Korean BBQ coming to 8th and Florida. Former Argent spot.”

The placard says:

“New Restaurant serving Korean BBQ-Style cuisine. Sidewalk Café with 22 seats. Summer Garden with 16 seats. Total Occupancy Load is 150 with seating for 90 inside premises.”

Back in March we learned:

“The team behind Duke’s Grocery and Duke’s Counter signed a lease to open the District’s first traditional Korean Barbeque restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood at 1924 8th Street NW. This will be the first Korean restaurant in Washington where food is cooked on an open-air grill embedded in each dining table. The name of the new location is pending; design and planning are underway.”

NO!!!!! A reader reports this morning:

“Smoked and Stacked is closing on Friday. I found out via their Instagram, but the post has since been taken down. Smoked and Stacked confirmed the news when I stopped by this morning.

Smoked and Stacked opened to phenomenal reviews back in September 2016 in one of the Convention Center retail spaces. Pastrami. This one hurts if true. This one hurts bad. It’s unclear why the social media was taken down so hopefully there is a small chance for a miracle despite OP hearing in person that it’s true. Maybe? Pray with me?

Updates when more is known/announced.

Ed. Note: Hazel first opened in June 2016 and got their first Bib Gourmands from Michelin in October 2017 and got one again in 2018.

From an email:

“We just changed over our menu at Hazel, and announced a new chef, Robert Curtis, who has introduced a decidedly different culinary direction for the restaurant. For one, the dishes skew Mediterranean; a puffed laffa bread is meant to be used as a tool for the rest of the menu, and the majority of dishes are small, shareable plates, with some new family-style options as well.”

“Thought you might also be interested in checking out the new cocktail menu, as that has changed substantially. Spirits Manager Nick Farrell has followed Robert’s lead with a new set of cocktails”: (more…)
