Columbia Room (124 Blagden Alley NW) is set to debut the first tasting menu created by newly appointed Beverage Manager Paul Taylor on Tuesday, August 6. The menu, titled “So Bad, It’s Good,” pays homage to once-lowbrow drinks with high-low mashup creations that are simultaneously nostalgic and forward-thinking.

The So Bad, It’s Good menu features four courses, each presenting a re-imagined throwback cocktail alongside an equally imaginative food pairing from Columbia Room Culinary Director Johnny Spero.

“Dear PoPville,

I believe these are below market rate homes of some sort at 8th and T Sts NW. Overall they present well, blending in nicely with the area but if you look through the windows, the architect put the interior stairs in front of the windows! This defeats the purpose of having windows. There are windows that aren’t blocked on the other side but why on earth would you not use the interior wall to host the stairs?” (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to alert the community to something I’ve noticed the past few months. I walk to the Shaw metro each morning and have noticed a growing amount of groups of bikes locked to posts along the way. Mostly at the intersection of Rhode Island Ave and 8th St NW, on both sides of Rhode Island. The bikes are parked at the back of the Shaw library and in front of an Airbnb (Airbnb has it’s own yard and storage areas, so unlikely they’re for their guests). (more…)


Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District seek the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in reference to an Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) offense that occurred on Sunday, July 28, 2019, in the 600 block of T Street, Northwest.

At approximately 3:47 am, the suspect approached the victims at the listed location. The suspect brandished a gun and fired shots. The suspect then fled the scene. Two victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Additionally, two other victims refused medical treatment on scene.

The suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen in the photos and video link below:

Anyone who can identify this individual or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.”

MPD reported around 6:30pm: “Shooting at 1827 hrs at 8th & O Streets, NW. No lookout.”

Shortly thereafter MPD shared more details:

“The Third District is investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of 8th St. NW. An adult male is in stable condition at an area hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound. 3 subjects are stopped, and the incident is pending further Investigation. A weapon was recovered from the scene. Officers and Detectives are on scene investigating the offense.
