UPDATE: “At around 10pm last night, an individual coming from a nearby establishment punched and broke one of our windows. He injured himself and tried to flee the scene. MPD and EMS were quick to arrive and we were told the individual would be arrested after receiving medical attention. We would like to thank our DC Fire Department for coming by today to thoroughly clean the sidewalks with high-pressured water hoses.” – 801 Ownership

Thanks to a reader for sending: “Was just at gaslight and Sunday is [was] the last day. They are closing for a renovation.”

I spoke with the owner to make sure it was indeed closing for a renovation and not a “renovation”. Fortunately it is indeed a proper renovation, they are “integrating one of the retail bays that’s under the rolldown door.” If all goes well they’ll reopen September 18th. Stay tuned.

From an email:

Columbia Room (124 Blagden Alley NW) is set to debut the first tasting menu created by newly appointed Beverage Manager Paul Taylor on Tuesday, August 6. The menu, titled “So Bad, It’s Good,” pays homage to once-lowbrow drinks with high-low mashup creations that are simultaneously nostalgic and forward-thinking.

The So Bad, It’s Good menu features four courses, each presenting a re-imagined throwback cocktail alongside an equally imaginative food pairing from Columbia Room Culinary Director Johnny Spero.

“Dear PoPville,

I believe these are below market rate homes of some sort at 8th and T Sts NW. Overall they present well, blending in nicely with the area but if you look through the windows, the architect put the interior stairs in front of the windows! This defeats the purpose of having windows. There are windows that aren’t blocked on the other side but why on earth would you not use the interior wall to host the stairs?” (more…)
