Thanks to Cameron and Kristin for sending: “Another hit for small retail in DC. First Punch, then this.”
“This is a bittersweet email to write. After much thought, I’ve decided to close Violet. Our last day open will be October 20th and all sales will be final as of September 30th.
There are many reasons I’ve made this decision. Some personal. Some related to the business environment that retail, in particular small retail, will face over the next few years. (more…)
From an email:
“We at Violet Boutique are excited to announce that we are moving from our current Georgetown location at the end of November, and are headed to the Shaw neighborhood. You may remember that we relocated from Adams Morgan to Georgetown in 2016, and we learned so much by being able to expand our square footage, and by testing the waters in a retail-heavy neighborhood.
Our last day in Georgetown (3289 M Street, NW) will be Sunday, November 26!

And in December – we’re back. We will be opening a temporary pop-up shop from 12/1 – 12/31 in The Shay (1924 8th St NW – the former Steven Alan space), and the tentative opening date for our new location (a few doors down from the pop-up space) is March 2018. (more…)

“We’re sad to say that we’ll be closing our Adams Morgan location for good on April 30th and reopening at 3289 M Street NW on May 2nd. We love Adams Morgan and will miss it dearly but we’re also SO EXCITED to move Violet to a much larger space and bring our brand and exceptional customer service to Georgetown!
Since we’re moving moving to Georgetown at the end of April, we wanted to show our appreciation for all that our neighbors in Adams Morgan have given us over the last 5 years. To celebrate our 5th anniversary, on 3/11, we will be making three $1,100 donations to non-profits in the greater Adams Morgan neighborhood. We would love for our customers (and neighbors) to vote to assist us in picking the recipients. Voting will begin tomorrow at 5pm via an online form. Likes and comments on social media will not count towards voting. Find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/
Violet Boutique located at 2439 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan opened up last weekend. This one is for the ladies – from their Web site:
With an incredible array of fashions and accessories, you can have it all at Violet.
Fashion should be fun. It’s about experimenting, trying new looks, and most importantly, being your best self. Above all else, I want every woman to leave Violet feeling beautiful in their own skin.
The space looks great and it’s nice to Adams Morgan add some retail to the eating/drinking options to 18th Street.
As always the photos will tell a better story:

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.
Meet the Humphrey Bogart of cats! At first Mac seems like such a tough guy but he is a real softie with a heart of gold. Like most of us, he is sociable but with boundaries. He’d rather choose to hop on the sofa next to you than be picked up and placed on your lap. Patience will reward you. Mac accepts new people pretty quickly, but really warms up with more time. Mac is all set to begin his “beautiful friendship” – he is just waiting for the right person to start! Is it you?!
Violet is a healthy, active, middle-aged pup who wants to be your one and only! She is looking for a calm, adult-only home with an experienced dog owner who can recognize her triggers and help her to feel safe and secure. She can be very anxious at times, which makes her wary of strangers, reactive around other dogs, and easily startled. Once settled, however, Violet isn’t afraid to show her goofy side and will request daily snuggles. She’s a small lady with a very big personality!
She is impeccably house-trained, knows basic commands, and can easily be left at home without incident during the workday. She likes to explore, whether that means going for car rides or hiking Rock Creek. While she would love to have a yard to run in, she also does fine in lower-level apartment living (no elevators) with several walks daily.
