“I just wanted to say I’m sorry, I’m peeing”

“Dear PoPville,

After work I was walking home from the Metro in Shaw yesterday talking on my phone when a man was standing behind a car. He waved one hand and started talking at me so being the polite person I am, I took out my headphone’s and asked him to repeat what he said. He then responded with “I just wanted to say I’m sorry, I’m peeing” and then pointed his genitalia at me. This is an extremely open area surrounded by various public establishments with working facilities, so there is absolutely no way that this was accidental.

I’m a young female in my early 20’s, so I’m not quite sure what to do when a situation like this occurs. Even though I’ve lived in the District for nearly a decade, This is the second time in two weeks that I’ve encountered men who have deliberately put me in very uncomfortable situations, to put it mildly, and I worry about the frequency with which it now seems to happen. Do I call the police?

Aesop finally opened up on Sunday (been getting a lot of emails inquiring about them). Their website says:

“Johnny Spero returns to Washington D.C., joining Columbia Room (124 Blagden Alley NW) as executive chef, launching his first menu on October 4 and leading an overhaul of the James Beard Award-nominated craft cocktail bar’s culinary program. During his tenure as executive sous chef at Jose Andres’ Minibar, Spero earned a perfect four-star review from The Washington Post. He was also awarded the prestigious StarChefs 2014 “D.C. Rising Star” award and was Eater DC’s 2014 Chef of the Year.

Since re-opening in its new Blagden Alley location in February, the Tasting Room has produced three distinct seasonal cocktail-and-small-plate pairing menus — winter, spring and summer. The upcoming fall menu, inspired by leaves, will be conceived and crafted under Spero’s direction, and he will also enhance the snack and appetizer offerings in the Spirits Library and Punch Garden. Hmm back in June we learned that Fino Tavern was finally coming to this space across from the Convention Center. I just noticed the signage 12 Thirty Restaurant & Champagne Lounge.  Maybe Fino will be taking the lower level?  Stay tuned.
