Gun Recovered in the 600 block of Rock Creek Church Road NW

“Fourth District units responded to the 600 block of Rock Creek Church Road NW just before 10:30 pm, regarding a call for subjects entering an unoccupied residence under renovation. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered 5 individuals inside the location, officers also recovered a .25 caliber handgun from the scene. 5 individuals were arrested and charged accordingly, and another gun has been taken off the streets of the city!”

About those Helicopters Last Night – Missing Person Assist AND “searching for a prisoner who escaped from police custody”

I received numerous messages last night like this one:

“Helicopters have been circling Columbia Heights/Petworth/Park View since last night. My wife heard it was due to a search for a missing person who was found, but they’re still circling. Anyone know what’s going on?”

MPD first reported:

“Fourth District Officers were searching for a missing person with the assistance of the MPD helicopter. The missing person was located”

Then:

“Officers of the Third Police District are searching for a prisoner who escaped from police custody. The suspect is described as an African American male, 5’10”, 155 pounds, dark complexion, wearing a white t-shirt, black pants, and dark shoes. The suspect was last seen running eastbound in the 600 block of Lamont Street, NW. He is wanted on drug, theft, and traffic charges.

Anyone with information regarding this escaped prisoner is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at 202-727-9099.”

The attached photo is along the back side of Raymond Elementary as seen from Rock Creek Church Rd & 9th St NW. The speed limit sign in the picture warns that “children are present” …are they hiding in the 5′ tall weeds/grass??! What makes it worse is the mowing crew was out Thursday night around 8pm and didn’t bother to take care of it – any idea who can be contacted to fix this?“

Reader Reports Shots Fired/Robbery in Petworth around 9:40am

A reader reports:

“Any word on gunshots this morning around Georgia and Taylor NW? Heard 3 at about 9:40. Helicopter was overhead but seems to be gone. there were foot patrols and motorcycle cops around, as well as the helicopter. Just talked to a cop. It was a robbery. No one hurt. Still shots fired, just no one hit. Was in the alley behind 7-11 at Georgia and Shepherd.”

UPDATE from MPD:

“At approximately 945 this morning, in the alley of the 900 block of Shepard Street, N.W., the complainant reports he was assaulted by five to six suspects. During the assault, one of the suspects produced a gun and shot at the complainant but missed. The suspects took the complainants property and fled the scene. The lookout was for five to six black males, twenty two to twenty five years old. Anyone with information regarding this offense can reach MPD at 202 727-9099.”
