Thanks to all who messaged on Friday. Aisha writes: “First Ruta, now Hanks”.

Hank’s Cocktail Bar writes:

“Hank’s Cocktail Bar is boxing up shop on December 14th & moving to the 2nd floor of our flagship location, Hank’s Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle. Same great cocktails, same Hank’s hospitality, awesome new space. Stay up to date on social media for our January 2019 reopening date. It’s not goodbye… it’s see you soon!”

Ed. Note: Brief but beloved Ruta Del Vino closed last month on Upshur Street after two years in Petworth.

Hank’s first opened on Upshur Street as Twisted Horn back in January 2016. They changed names to Hank’s Cocktail Bar back in November 2016. Updates when we learn what becomes of the property. A look at the property’s transformation after the jump. (more…)

3937 Georgia at Shepherd St, NW

A reader reports:

New restaurant on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Shepherd is from owners of Heat Da Spot (recent winner of People magazine’s best breakfast in D.C., located at 3213 Georgia Avenue, NW.) I was told that they’ve been renovating it for the past two years and are now nearly done. I have no idea what the cuisine is but will probably be quite similar to Heat Da Spot. It will open after New Year’s.

847 Upshur Street, NW prior to opening courtesy Lulabelle’s

From the owners of Each Peach Market and Pear Plum Cafe:

“We are announcing that as of December 24th, 2018, Each Peach will no longer be the operators of Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop, choosing instead to focus on our other businesses in Mt. Pleasant. For the last year, Lulabelle’s has functioned as a collaboration between Emily Friedberg and Jeanlouise Conaway of Each Peach Market and Pear Plum Cafe in Mt. Pleasant and Julie Wineinger, owner of Willow Fashion. Each Peach was running the coffee and ice cream service, as well as all kitchen operations. “We are sad to leave Upshur Street and have loved getting to know a new neighborhood but ultimately, the logistics of having a kitchen offsite from our primary business location has proved to be difficult to manage.”

Lulabelle’s will close on Dec 24th for the Christmas Holiday and to make some adjustments to the space, and will reopen tentatively on January 8th, 2019. (more…)

Thanks to all who emailed about the sad Ruta Del Vino news. On Friday night SAF wrote us:

“Just came home from happy hour at Ruta Del Vino. Apparently tomorrow is their last day. We are all upset about this.”

At request of the owners I didn’t post anything and was hoping to learn more info yesterday but I didn’t hear back from them.

Update from the owners:

“To our regulars and our wonderful staff, thank you for the many friendships we made over the last two years. To all of our guests: it was an honor to serve you.

We would love to hear from anyone interested in taking over the lease. It’s a turnkey opportunity on a very hot block. Anyone interested can reach us at [email protected].”

Based on the number of emails I’ve received this has really hit Petworth folks hard. Ruta del Vino transformed this corner two years ago: (more…)
