From DDOT:

shots fired
Georgia and Webster St, NW

From MPD:

“Earlier today there were multiple shots fired in the 4400 block of Georgia Avenue NW. MPD units responded to the scene and located shell casings. At this time we have no report of injuries or property damage as a result of the gunfire. This case is still under investigation.”

Ed. Note: A friend of mine reported it happened just after 11am – see photo above.

parakeet

“Dear PoPville,

A parakeet, which is clearly someone’s pet, made it’s way to our playground. We were able to capture it and have it at our school. We’d like to get the word out to folks in the neighborhood.

Christian Family Montessori School
201 Allison St., NW

They can call the school 202-722-1520 and ask for Wendy. We have contacted the humane society and they will pick up at some point today but it didn’t sound like it would be immediately.”

I am now indebted to Tim for life for sending this marvel from Petworth:

“What the Helen of Troy? Or does this belong in sweet city rides? Or caption contest? It’s a triple threat! Genius work, until it rains. They drove it around, pumping 80’s rock to the neighborhood and having a great time.”

Not sure how the inspection renewal will go but love it while it lasts!

THURS: Lexicon Classic Cocktails with Dan Series

Craft bartender Dan Searing is already known for his encyclopedic knowledge of spirits and their history. Starting Thursday, April 14th in the Reading Room, he’s bringing that knowledge to the people. Welcome to LEXICON, our newest cocktail series. Every first and third Thursday, Dan will make drinks from a classic cocktail manual. First up: drinks from a bootlegger’s guide, disguised as German poetry. (People got creative to get buzzed during those years…)”

There have long been rumors that a horse faced hillbilly with little personality had plans to open a bar in this long vacant space near the Blue Banana. Looks like he finally got it done and it’s called DC Reynolds (pronounced RAY-nolds, I believe). It’s a bit ordinary when you first walk in but it has a phenomenal back patio and a decent happy hour too. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood!!

el sol
3911 14th Street, NW

Thanks to all who sent links to the glowing review from the Post on El Sol:

“The best taqueria in Washington by a long shot”

Not mincing words. Sadly, the article ends with: “Mainly, though, I’m frustrated that the Solis crew will soon close their 14th Street NW location, an apparent victim of gentrification.”

El Sol only opened up on 14th Street in the former Sisy’s space by Red Derby back in 2014. They opened their smaller 11th Street location (“A Real Mexican Restaurant Run by Real Mexicans Cooking in the Kitchen”) last September in the former El Sauce space.

However, in another article (thanks again to a reader for letting me know) the Post’s Tim Carman shares even more details about the move:

“Construction is already underway for Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana, a 72-seat restaurant that Alfredo and Jessica Solis hope to open in July…The potentially bad news? Mezcalero will be located one door down from Taqueria Habanero.”

Updates as they get closer to opening in July.
