Thanks to Vann-Di M. Galloway, DTM, Commissioner, Single Member District 4C06 for sharing:

“The Department of Parks and Recreation has plans for the property bound by 13th Street, Kansas Avenue and Quincy Street, NW. The District proposes turning the rarely used triangular plot into a ‘Zen Garden Space’ with a north-south permeable walkway and a recessed circle with a stone wall for sitting.

This is a painful horse’s ass nominee, from ANC Rep Jonah Goodman, with it’s own website:

“Welcome to 414 Shepherd St

This is the story of what happens when development goes wrong and the District of Columbia is unable to respond. This is all happening right now at 414Shepherd Street, NW, Washington DC.

View the full Property Information Verification System Report (PIVS).

The current significant issues are:

Structural damage to both neighboring properties
Erosion under neighboring properties and in neighboring yards due to both lack of foundation and lack of soil retention
Standing water in the basement of the property
Large hole / hazard in the front yard only mitigated by one piece of caution tape
Health issues / concerns to pregant neighbor as children of neighbor
Open property in front and backyard used to dump trash
General neighborhood blight”

“Dear PoPville,

My friend has recently passed away and a car was broken into with some of his belongings at the CVS at the corner of Georgia and Princeton. A black backpack was stolen at around 730pm last night. It contained 1 Samsung phone, 1 iPad, 1 laptop (maybe a dell), 1 MacBook, 1 wallet with a Maryland state drivers license.

Given how busy that street is at that hour I’m hoping someone saw something. They can contact the fourth district sub station at 2025768222 or email me at [email protected]

Wayan on the scene with the details:

“May 10 – For Immediate Release – Grant Circle, Petworth

At 1am on Tuesday morning, an unidentified driver achieved a new inadvertent parking record for Grant Circle. While speeding southbound on New Hampshire Avenue NW, they were surprised by the appearance of Grant Circle, an established neighborhood landmark, and instead of proceeding around the Circle, attempted to bisect it.

While they we unsuccessful in creating a new shortcut through the Circle, they did achieve a new distance record, almost reaching the inner sidewalk before stopping.

Sadly, they killed a tree in the process, cutting short a life of promise. Area residents were shocked by the loss and have vowed to badger the National Park Service for a replacement, hopefully with reflective bark.

DC parking enforcement arrived shorty after the police, noting that Grant Circle is a No Parking Zone. [Yes, I swear that really happened!]”

no smoking

“Dear PoPville,

We live in a rowhouse in Petworth, next door to a heavy pot smoker. Even when all of our doors and windows are closed, our house still smells like his pot. This is happening every day. it is a big problem for us because we have an 11-month old, and we’re pretty sure babies should not be exposed to pot smoke. We’ve talked to our neighbor about it, but he is not willing to accommodate us. The smell seems to be coming through the basement, but we don’t understand how.

Can pot smoke go through brick walls? We’ve been trying to fill in the gaps in the mortar but that doesnt seem to be making any difference. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if they have any suggestions. How is his pot smoke getting into our house? Could an air purifier get rid of the smell? Is there anything else we should be trying?”

“Dear PoPville,

Over the last month or so on my walk home from the Petworth metro I’ve seen at least 8 instances of cars with their back windows broken into. Every time these cars have been parked on the 3600 block of Georgia Ave directly next to the CVS (across from Fisherman of Men Church) in that stretch of 8-10 parking spaces before you hit Princeton Place. I have never seen it happen before this and I think some of the times it’s happening in broad daylight which is crazy to me considering how busy the street is.

I had my car window smashed in a couple years ago despite there being nothing of value in the car to steal and it was such a bummer, so I wish I could warn these people before they decide to park in these spots! Obviously people will continue to park there, but at least they know there’s a risk involved. Can CVS post notices on their side wall warning that there’s been a string of break-ins in those spots? Considering that that CVS is always a mess, I’m less than optimistic that they’d do anything about it; but I’d just hate to sit idly by as it happens to more people. Is there anything that we can do?”
