“Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith has announced the establishment of a Juvenile Curfew Zone in the Navy Yard area.
The Juvenile Curfew Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 gives the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department the authority to order a Juvenile Curfew Zone in an area where large groups of youths are gathering or intend to gather in a manner that poses a risk of substantial harm to public safety.

“The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance to identify and locate a suspect involved in a shooting in Southeast.
At approximately 8:19 p.m., on Friday, July 4, 2025, First District officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 1100 block of Half Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, a 15-year-old juvenile male, was located conscious and breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

This is the city’s current solution to curbing disorderly youth congregating in Navy Yard. They have arrayed generator-powered lights around the green space. Unfortunately, for those living around the perimeter, we are subjected to eternal daylight. What’s next, speakers blasting heavy metal music?

“The Metropolitan Police Department responded to large groups of juveniles who gathered in the Navy Yard on Saturday evening, causing disturbances, creating disorder, and committing at least two robberies. This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces two arrests in an armed carjacking that occurred in the Navy Yard area.
On Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 12:08 p.m., the suspects approached the victim, who was exiting their car, in the 1200 block of 4th Street, Southeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys. After obtaining the victim’s keys, the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. (more…)
