Metro Plans Full Scale Response Drill at Navy Yard Station Sunday

“Metro Transit Police and District of Columbia emergency responders will conduct a full-scale response drill Sunday, April 23, at the Navy Yard Metrorail Station to practice the evacuation of a disabled train in a tunnel.

The exercise, which will take place inside the tunnel between Navy Yard and Anacostia stations, will simulate real-world conditions to test coordination and communication between on-scene responders, Metrorail operations staff, Metro Transit Police and support personnel.

The exercise will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude no later than 2:00 p.m.

Metro conducts quarterly drills with emergency responders throughout the region. In addition to Metro Transit Police and Metrorail operations personnel, DC Fire and EMS, and the Metropolitan Police Department will also participate in the event. More than 100 emergency responders and volunteers are expected to participate.

Customer Information

  • Navy Yard station will remain open; however, the Half Street entrance will be closed until the event concludes. All Metro customers using Navy Yard Station will be directed to use the New Jersey Avenue entrance.

First-ever Easter Egg Hunt at Nationals Park Sunday

“Nats fans ages 3-8 years old will have the special chance to hunt for eggs in the outfield at Nationals Park after the team plays the Phillies at 1:35 p.m. Each fan will receive a commemorative Nationals-themed wooden Easter egg and a basket. A special ticket is required for participation.

“Chef Reid Shilling, who brings with him 19 years of industry experience at top-tier restaurants including The Dabney and Bouchon Bistro in Yountville, CA announces the opening of Shilling Canning Company, located at The Yards. Shilling’s first restaurant concept will offer a rustic combination of Mid-Atlantic cooking and Californian finesse. Located on the ground floor of the luxury Arris Apartments at The Yards, Shilling Canning Company is on target to open in early 2018.

Shilling Canning Company will work with local growers and purveyors to source the best in fresh ingredients from the Mid Atlantic, from proteins that will be butchered in house, to seafood carefully selected from local fisherman. The restaurant is named for Shilling Canning Company, a small canning business that Shilling’s family operated in Maryland from 1935-1958.

Lending a classic, comfortable setting for dining, Shilling Canning Company will offer seating for 75 guests. A centrally-placed open kitchen with a wood-fired brick oven, and a wood-burning grill, will house ample counter seating offering guests an up-close experience. Fresh herbs and produce for the menu will be grown in the restaurant’s large garden patio, which will also offer outdoor seating and a view of the waterfront.

Back in October I shared the good news that it looked like a Cave Grill would be coming to the prime corner location at 6th and H St, NE (the opened and closed sports bar for a hot second.) Happy to say that is now confirmed and set to open in the Fall!!

“The Nationals have partnered with Major League Baseball to launch a customized App to enhance the guest experience at Nationals Park. Fans will be able to access the App via “Ballpark” on the App Store and Google Play starting on Opening Day.

o Order Concessions with Express Pickup:
– Using the Ballpark App, fans will have the ability to order concessions via their phone, skip the line and enjoy express pickup at select locations*

– The App will help fans locate concessions stands, and fans will have the ability to re-order from previous orders with just one tap.

– *Will not be available on Opening Day, but a launch date will be announced in the coming weeks; express pick-up will be at select locations

As H Street was getting closer to opening, every time I posted I’d get emails asking about Navy Yard’s status. Unfortunately PR was unable to give an opening date so I stopped by last weekend to take a peek. Still a few months to go for sure:
