1212 4th Street, SE

Thanks to a reader for passing on from VIDA yesterday afternoon:

“Thank you very much for your patience today while we worked to recover from a fire overnight as quickly as possible!

Late last night, we suffered a fire in our laundry room after the club closed, close to midnight. We are very thankful that NO VIDA Team members, Fire Fighters or Building Management and Residents were injured! Everyone is safe.

We will remain closed today. [Ed. Note: Monday] Below is a bullet list of things you can expect tomorrow…

· Our Tuesday hours will be 7am-11pm. Our normal hours thereafter

· There will be no Fuel Bar service available tomorrow

· KidsZone will be closed tomorrow due to damage

· Group Fitness Studio will be closed indefinitely for repairs. I will have more information in the coming days. We hope to get this studio back as quickly as possible

· Aura Spa will be closed tomorrow

· Please plan for us not to have towel service available tomorrow. This is depending on repairs to the laundry room equipment

· The internal elevator may not be working. This also depends on repairs

· Penthouse Pool Club will operate as normal

Again, we are very grateful to all of you who wished us well and sent messages hoping that no one was injured! We are looking forward to getting back to full speed as quickly as possible!

If the above items are an inconvenience for you, all VIDA locations will be allowing access to Yards members should you wish to visit another location.

Thank you very, very much!”

No towel service? This is probably the worst day ever.

sounds like it was a dryer fire…which is a good reminder to everyone to not let your dryers run when you’re not at home.

    • Rich

Or at least clean the lint trap once in awhile.

      • anon3

Unfortunately dryer fires can start even if the lint trap is cleaned. If the the exhaust tube is blocked or even after the lint trap is cleaned, there may be a backup of lint inside the dryer that comes in contact with the heating element = fire.

Does anyone know whom we should contact to demand reparations for this lack of towel service? Do they expect me to dry myself using the wall-mounted hand dryers? This is absurd!

    • JD

Not to worry, towel service is up and running! From their Facebook page:

“Good news, hot water is back on at the Yards! Elevators will continue to be out today, but towel service is running as usual. Thanks for bearing with us!”

Glad nobody was hurt. I wonder if the Vida on H St is still happening. There is a big empty space on the second floor of the Apollo next to the Whole Foods.

I’ve asked them repeatedly about going into H Street, as that would be much more convenient than going to Navy Yard, for me, and they’ve repeatedly denied any plans to do so.

When the D.C. Gym tax passed a few years ago, they claimed they weren’t going to expand anymore.

Seriously I need a Vida on H Street! I used to live in Navy Yard and still go to that one, but H St would be much convenient for me now. It’s just so odd there isn’t a single “normal” gym over here, so many crossfit gyms and yoga studios but zero regular gyms. Yeah most of the new apartment buildings already have a gym, but there’s a whole swath of NE DC over here who might use a Vida (or a Balance, anything but a Planet Fitness!)
