From a press release:

The Capitol Riverside Youth Sports Park(CRYSP) organization today unveiled a new community-inspired design for a youth sporting facility comprised of multi-use fields, substantial green space, walking paths, and a covered farmer’s market pavilion.  The project is a growing effort to provide underserved DC youth with safe, accessible and high-quality playing fields and green space for recreation.  The proposed site is the little-used North parking lot of RFK Stadium – an area of urban blight in desperate need of green infrastructure that can mitigate the storm water discharge to the Anacostia River.

I attend several national real estate meetings each year and am involved in the National Association of Realtor®s Mid Year Legislative meetings that are here in town this week. I find it very interesting to hear from real estate agents about market conditions around the country. Some areas are experiencing a similar shortage of inventory that we are, and are also seeing multiple offers and increasing prices. Other parts of the country remain dominated by short sales and foreclosures, and are realistically concerned with potential shadow inventory (foreclosures held back by banks that when released could potentially flood places that are already overwhelmed).

To provide some perspective on the DC market, the April 2012 numbers were released by Real Estate Business Intelligence, a subsidiary of Metropolitan Regional Information Systems. Looking at the District of Columbia specifically and as a whole, compared to April 2011 the total dollar volume sold increased by 6.5% and median prices went up 12.53%. Average days on market decreased nearly 20%. Active listings decreased by over 32%! As I’ve said before, historically low mortgage rates are driving demand and active listings are in short supply. In other words, these are prime conditions for prices to continue to increase.

From Facebook:

First of all we’d like to thank everyone for their support in the past few days. Now we are asking for your help. For those of you who don’t know let’s catch you up to speed. On the morning of May 1st Boone, one of our bartenders, was walking a young lady home when a mugger snatched her purse. Boone took the purse back and wound up in a fight with the mugger. Seconds later Boone realized that he had been stabbed multiple times. After being airlifted to Med Star and undergoing a few surgeries he is miraculously walking around. However he’ll be out of work for awhile and is going to need our support. Therefore we’re [Trusty’s – 1420 Pennsylvania Ave SE] putting on fundraiser Wednesday the 16th to help him. We’ll be doing raffles throughout the night plus passing around the hat a few times. For those who can’t attend you can still help by donating directly to his paypal account to [email protected]. We just ask that you send it as a gift.

The Post reported:

“Police arrested James Moyler, 43, of no fixed address, minutes later, charging him with assault and robbery. They said he robbed the woman, then stabbed the man when he tried to intervene.”

Dear PoPville,

I’d like to nominate a property for the Horse’s Ass Award. This building on the 1400 block of A Street, SE has been in the process of being renovated over the last couple of years. Someone posted several months earlier on neighbor concerns and the legality of the renovations. The work seems to have stopped recently.

This is a real eyesore to the block. Note the different bricks on the front of the house and the shoddy second floor addition. The other picture shows the hideous roof line to this house. Several neighbors jokingly expressed disappointment that the earthquake felt this past summer didn’t topple down the ugly addition.
