From Facebook:

First of all we’d like to thank everyone for their support in the past few days. Now we are asking for your help. For those of you who don’t know let’s catch you up to speed. On the morning of May 1st Boone, one of our bartenders, was walking a young lady home when a mugger snatched her purse. Boone took the purse back and wound up in a fight with the mugger. Seconds later Boone realized that he had been stabbed multiple times. After being airlifted to Med Star and undergoing a few surgeries he is miraculously walking around. However he’ll be out of work for awhile and is going to need our support. Therefore we’re [Trusty’s – 1420 Pennsylvania Ave SE] putting on fundraiser Wednesday the 16th to help him. We’ll be doing raffles throughout the night plus passing around the hat a few times. For those who can’t attend you can still help by donating directly to his paypal account to [email protected]. We just ask that you send it as a gift.

The Post reported:

“Police arrested James Moyler, 43, of no fixed address, minutes later, charging him with assault and robbery. They said he robbed the woman, then stabbed the man when he tried to intervene.”

Dear PoPville,

I’d like to nominate a property for the Horse’s Ass Award. This building on the 1400 block of A Street, SE has been in the process of being renovated over the last couple of years. Someone posted several months earlier on neighbor concerns and the legality of the renovations. The work seems to have stopped recently.

This is a real eyesore to the block. Note the different bricks on the front of the house and the shoddy second floor addition. The other picture shows the hideous roof line to this house. Several neighbors jokingly expressed disappointment that the earthquake felt this past summer didn’t topple down the ugly addition.

This rental is located at 1418 D St, NE:

From MPD:

Yesterday afternoon First District officers were patrolling in the area of Eastern High School at dismissal as part of our continuing efforts to intervene in youth conflicts. Officers discovered a group of young men who reported that a subject shot at the then while they were standing at 17th Place and Constitution Avenue NE. One of these victims suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital.

This morning the First District again had officer patrolling the area around Eastern High School, when they heard the sound of gunshots come from the area of 15th and C Streets NE. The officers were joined by other officers and then began making a grid-search of the area. A crime scene was located in the 300 block of 15th Street NE; however, no victim was found at that time. As members continued to search and process the crime scene, a victim presented himself at an area hospital reporting that he had been shot at the 15th Street location. This subject’s injuries are non life-threatening.

Through coordination between Patrol Officers, Detectives and School Resource Officers, the subject responsible for yesterday’s shooting has been identified and arrested. At this time, we believe that the two incidents are related; however, detectives continue to investigate for confirmation and to identify today’s assailant. Information developed at this time also indicated that these were not random victims in either incident.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I never know what I’m gonna encounter when I roam DC’s alleys. Seriously. But last weekend marked a very happy encounter. I was wondering what was going on with this structure in an alley on Capitol Hill near the Hill East border:

One of the owners came out and asked me if I’d like a tour. Hell yes I would. Some times I get a bit jaded and forget how nice people can be. Mrs. Nash took me around the property telling me about the history – originally built in 1921 to store coal, ice, vending machines and more. The structure now has been combined into one huge home plus a separate in-law suit.

The main house was still being worked on but you can get an idea of how incredibly it will be:

Oh, and did I mention how high tech it is? It has a room that looks like it’s from NASA. It controls all the plumbing, heating, cooling, (radiant floors) etc. I hope to come back and show more pictures when construction is totally finished. Thanks Mrs. Nash!

This rental is located at 423 17th St, SE:

The listing says:

“This beautiful top-floor apartment features a completely renovated kitchen and bath, a stackable washer and dryer, a gas range, and a huge covered porch. And — it’s only a few blocks to the Potomac Ave metro stop.”

I’m gonna assume the huge covered porch is in the back? This 1 bed/1 bath is going for $1,675/Mo.

One reader asks:

“What happened to Annie & Teddie’s turned gelato shop?! They were supposed to come in September, though still nothing & soon it’ll be warm enough for gelato again.”

Sadly the retail space at the corner of Potomac and Pennsylvania Ave, SE is no longer going to become a gelato spot. I was told that the gelato folks had trouble navigating the permitting process. I’ve recently found out that the retail space has been sold. I’m not aware of a new tenant but will update as soon as one is found.
