“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what the delay is with the opening of Walgreens at Union Station? It’s looked ready for a while. Any information would be most appreciated by those of us who work/live nearby or travel through.”

One of our Union Station operatives reported on Friday:

“I spoke to a customer service rep. She claimed that they would be opening [this] “next week” but could not give me more information. She also could not provide any information about why there has been such a delay in opening. We will see whether this actually pans out!”

On Feb. 10th a reported “a gross, slightly scary experience around 9am on my walk to work. Walking on the north side of M St. NE between 5th and 6th”. Yesterday two more folks believe they ran into him:

“Earlier this morning around 9:20am I was walking towards the Noma Metro on M Street and 5th Street when I ran into I believe the same man. He was wearing a black ski mask and black jacket and had his private parts exposed. He seemed a bit odd as I approached to pass him on the side walk until I realized what he was doing. I immediately called the cops and informed them because I knew this has happened before and thought it was the same guy from when this happened on 2/10/16. Hopefully they can get him the help he needs!”

and

“We live near the corner of 6th and M ST NE and have reported him twice this week, once on Tuesday and once today. I called 911 about 4 times giving them updates on his location but DC police kept missing him. Both days he was pacing back and forth down M ST NE from the corner of 5th to Florida Ave. He was seen today moving from one side of M ST NE to the other based on the foot traffic that was coming. It appears he was targeting women. Both days we have seen him he has been out during the high traffic time from 830-930 or so. Hopefully they get this guy soon.”

From an email:

“Due to unforeseen delays in construction as a result of the inclement weather, SEOULSPICE has postponed its grand opening to the general public. Originally planned for the last week of January 2016, the new fast-casual restaurant will officially open on Friday, February 26, 2016. Located in NoMa at 145 N Street NE, SEOULSPICE specializes in Korean comfort food offering a choice-driven menu of quick, healthy, and delicious Korean dishes that are served in a modern setting.

SEOULSPICE’s menu features made-to-order Korean favorites, such as rice bowls (bibimbap) and korritos (kimbap burritos), as well as street tacos and salads. These bases are enhanced with four protein options—beef, chicken, spicy pork, and tofu— and fresh vegetables, including bean sprouts, corn, carrots, cucumbers, Korean radish, kale slaw, and kimchi (pickled Korean cabbage). SEOULSPICE offers four gourmet sauces made in-house—Korean hot sauce, creamy sriracha, cilantro-lime ranch, and ginger-carrot—plus fresh herbs and toppings. The menu also features three sides: “the” egg, marinated in a sweet soy base; avocado; and jars of kimchi.”

“Dear PoPville,

Had a gross, slightly scary experience around 9am on my walk to work. Walking on the north side of M St. NE between 5th and 6th a black man wearing winter clothes and a black ski mask walked down the street exposing and touching himself. He looked totally normal until passing within feet of me. I had initially smiled a morning greeting (California in me …) and immediately changed to a look of disgust when I saw what was going on. This is two blocks from a school and in a neighborhood full of kids and families. Please share.”

Ed. Note: A 911 operator said someone else had called it in at 6th and M and officers were sent to the scene.

From Republic Kolache:

“After kicking off our retail operation with a Saturday morning ‘residency’ at American Ice Co. last August, we’re pleased announce that starting this weekend we’ll be coming to Union Market!

We’ll be occupying a stall near the front of the market on Saturdays & Sundays (9a-4p) through early March (and possibly longer than that). With the consistent lines we’ve been seeing at American Ice (particularly after big flavor launches like the king cake kolache, DCity Smokehouse brisket, etc.) we’re hoping these extended hours will help alleviate the crowds a bit and offer all the kolache fans a convenient option to get their fix!

Saturday will also mark the launch of our poppyseed flavor– a very traditional Czech flavor and a meaningful one for me personally (was always my favorite flavor that my grandmother would make growing up). We also have some fun new guest chef flavors coming soon, including one with Nate Anda of Red Apron (conveniently a few stalls away at the market).

See you at the market!”
