“Dear PoPville,

The guy in this photo is pretending to be a fire system inspector. In the middle of our busiest time at Pearl’s Bagels [Saturday} AM this man came in and told our manager that he was there to inspect our fire suppression system and update the tags on our vent hood. He had our manager call us, and when he got off the phone he lied to them and said that we had forgotten to let them know that he was coming, handed them 4 bills, and told them that Oliver said to just pay the bills via cash in the safe. They were busy and flustered and paid him without confirming that we’d said this. The bills totaled $947 dollars.

We realized it was a scam when they told us they’d paid him cash, and when we looked at the bill we realized it’s a phony company with a fake address.

DO NOT PAY THIS MAN ANY MONEY!!”

Update from Melange’s PR team: “Unfortunately, the news is true. This weekend will be Melange’s last day at its current location.”

A reader reports earlier this week: “Just heard from the staff at Melange in Mount Vernon Triangle that they are closing up their restaurant. Sadly this is their last week.”

Perhaps focusing on Doro Soul?

I’ve sent messages to their PR rep and the restaurant but have not heard back yet. A call to the restaurant this morning rings without answer or voicemail. Will update if/when I learn more.

From an email:

Petite Cerise, a new concept from Jeremiah Langhorne and Alex Zink of D.C.’s highly lauded The Dabney, is set to open its doors tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14.

Translated to “little cherry,” the highly anticipated restaurant provides guests with French-inspired, all-day dining influenced by their travels and love of classic French technique. Part casual neighborhood café, part energetic bistro, the restaurant was designed to encourage the French way of living and enjoying life, or “joie de vivre”. (more…)
