Thanks to @MollyGHP for tweeting us the news on Friday:

“any scoop on homemade pizza? Website and 14th street store dark! Called DC stores – no answer. Appears to have gone poof overnight. apparently homemade pizza full bankruptcy, bank selling all #bummer”

HomeMade Pizza opened their Logan location at the corner of 14th and Church St, NW back in Jan. 2010. Their Georgetown location closed back in July 2012. Were there any regulars of the Logan spot?

“Dear PoPville,

One of my new favorite places for food on 14th street is actually on the corner of 14/Corcoran. It’s not a restaurant but takeout in the back of a convenience store. But it’s some of the best and most authentic Caribbean food I’ve had in DC. And it’s cheap. So, thought I’d mention it next time you’re down this way. The Ox tail is outstanding.”

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if you anyone knows what’s up at 14th & S, NW? One World Fitness has been shuttered for a week or so now and their website is no longer online. Wondering what’s next for this spot.”

Hmm, I don’t think this is part of the new Logan Hardware location – anyone hear anything about this spot?

Ed. Note: This is the former home to Point Chaud Cafe and Crepes and the first location of Redeem boutique. This is also right next door to the new development at 1728 14th Street, NW whose retail space will be home to a West Elm.

From a press release:

“UIP General Contracting, Inc. is pleased to announce that the firm has been selected by owner/landlord Perseus Realty, LLC to complete a 12,500 square foot adaptive reuse, addition, and tenant fit-out for the new location of Logan Hardware on 14th Street, NW in Washington, DC.

Nearly 4,000 square feet of new indoor and outdoor retail space will be added to two existing historic DC rowhomes to serve as the hardware store’s new location at 1734-36 14th Street. UIPGC will add new structural, mechanical, and conveying systems while maintaining and preserving the existing masonry façade. Thanks to Victoria for sending:

“This is a fun event – a great chance to see the work of local artists – much of which is even affordable!”

Here’s a PDF map and pamphlet:

From Mid City Artists:

“Who are the Mid City Artists? They are a diverse and talented group of professional artists who have come together for the purpose of promoting their art and the Dupont/Logan neighborhoods of Washington DC that they call home.

Twice each year, the private studios of select member artists are open for visitors. Always the weekend before Memorial Day in the Spring and the weekend after Columbus Day in the Fall. Discover painting, photography, sculpture, glass, mixed media, prints and much more.

Enjoy a day touring with friends and observing the artistic process. Explore how artists have carved out their working spaces and build your collection from the connections that you make with these artists.

Where is Mid City? Host to some of the city’s hottest restaurants, nightclubs, galleries, interior design shops and fashion boutiques, the Mid City corridor is a thriving destination for the arts in DC. Roughly centered between Dupont Circle on the West and 9th Street NW to the East and stretching from U Street NW to L Street NW to the South, the area crosses a number of neighborhoods including Dupont, Shaw, and Logan . . .”

At first glance these buildings seem a bit beat up on 14th Street in Logan. But next time you pass – look up top and all of them have some type of great detail:

Well this ranks pretty high on the random scale – a reader writes:

“Sharknado DC. Seen on Rhode Island between Logan Circle and 14th. Should I be concerned?”

According to horshoe-crabs.com they are harmless. As for how it got here…

Dolcezza_logan
14th and P St, NW

From a press release:

“Robb Duncan, Washington’s premier gelato artisan and co-owner of Dolcezza, is pleased to unveil his newest location, which will open June 1, 2014 at 1418 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005, in the bustling 14th Street neighborhood. Designed by Grupo 7, Dolcezza’s newest location will feature a “to-go” window that will allow customers to order gelato and Stumptown Coffee from the street. Another new addition will be a sundae bar where customers can enjoy a rotating seasonal sundae menu with home made whipped cream and fresh seasonal toppings to their favorite gelatos and sorbettos. One new flavor combo to look out for is the Fruity Pebbles, singing dog vanilla gelato topped with marcona almonds and candied citrus zest. Seasonal sundaes will be priced between $7 and $10.

The 1,000 square foot space was originally a pharmacy built in 1878. With the intention of letting the character of the building dictate the space, Dolcezza is keeping the original front entrance door and retail shelving. The store will have a crafted apothecary feel with carefully chosen light fixtures from Housewerks Salvage in Baltimore, MD, and feature 30 seats. Ten outdoor dining seats will also be available in the spring and summer months (weather permitting).

When Robb Duncan met his wife and business partner in Dolcezza, Violeta Edelman, sailing down the Amazon, little did he know that two love stories were unfolding. As one romance bloomed in South America, another emerged from a sampling of Argentina’s tradition of artisan gelato and a determination to bring it to the United States. After learning the delicate process of crafting gelati and sorbetti in Buenos Aires, the husband and wife team found a niche in DC’s budding local food culture, building a business on the foundation of cultivating close relationships with local farmers to create delicious and distinctive gelatos and sorbets. The two have formed lasting bonds with the area’s local farmers and artisans, incorporating locally grown and seasonal fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, cheese and fresh herbs into their product.

Dolcezza’s philosophy is simple: Be curious. Be spontaneous. Play with you food. Support local farmers and make exquisite gelato. Dolcezza makes gelato with a conscience, using only the best available ingredients grown by local farmer friends. By creating an artisanal product, Dolcezza has learned to measure time with the seasons and to work closely with local farmers.

Dolcezza 14th Street will be located at 1418 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005, seven blocks from the Dupont Circle metro accessible on the Red Line. Dolcezza 14th Street will be open Monday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.”
