“Dear PoPville,

For the last month DC has let an abandoned car with smashed windows and dozens of tickets sit and rot while partially blocking traffic in Ivy City, on Gallaudet St, (right near Gravitas and the Hecht Warehouse). Repeated calls to 311 from many residents have yielded no results, though the city posted a warning that the car would be towed back at the start of June. Wishful thinking with no follow-up. “On 3/15/2019, at approximately 10:00 PM, an adult female reported that she had just been carjacked by two (2) suspects, in the 1000 block of Mt. Olivet Road, NE. The complainant reported that one of the suspects produced a handgun, and ordered her out of her vehicle. The suspects then fled the scene in the complainant’s vehicle.

A short time later, at approximately 10:30 PM, members of the 5D Crime Suppression Team located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Circle 7, at 1211 Mt. Olivet Road, NE. The officers approached the vehicle, at which time the suspects fled in the vehicle, striking an officer who was out on foot. (more…)

Shootings in Ivy City and LeDroit Park Last Night

“Earlier this evening Fifth District officers responded to a call for sounds of gunshots in the 1800 Block of Kendall St NE. Officers responded to the scene and located an adult male victim suffering from gun-shot wounds to the leg and foot. He was transported to an area hospital and is in serious condition. 5D detectives are handling this investigation. Anyone with any information regarding this offense are urged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text us at 50411.”

SWEET SCUTTLEBUTT: NYC’s Other Half Brewing Co. opening a brewery in D.C.!!?!?!

OK beer geeks, buckle up. I got a few queries over the weekend asking about the giant line Saturday in front of the Bruery Store in Union Market. It turns out that the Other Half Brewing Co. had a can pop up event. The line was around the block (see above, thanks to Laura for sending.) Then this week, I started to get a steady flood of scuttlebutt from sources saying that they hear Other Half were planning on opening up a brewery here in D.C. Word is the location will be somewhere in Ivy City.

I had their Double Dry Hopped Mylar Bags at Boundary Stone last night and it was outstanding. This is very, very good news indeed. I rate this scuttlebutt accuracy at 97%. (more…)

I dropped of my car today at Auto Tech Service in Adams Morgan only to learn that they were abruptly closing down today and moving to another location in NE near Ivy City. They are an amazing auto repair shop and I’m sad to see them leave. I thought it would be worth sharing since many locals use their service.”

“On yesterday’s date, June 25, 2018, members of the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team conducted a Search Warrant on the above address in connection with another Pop-Up Marijuana Party. The Warrant was successful in seizing over 10 pounds of Marijuana, hundreds of Marijuana edibles (some look exactly like Gummy Bears and other kids candies), illegal Marijuana oils, and over 20,000 dollars in cash. 23 Arrests were made, all were adults. Please see the below message from Commander FitzGerald regarding past Pop-Up Marijuana Parties.

I would like to address some sentiments I have received from the community in regards to these marijuana pop-up events. The events have contributed to violent crime in the Fifth District. (more…)
