From a press release:

“Following the successful opening of Southeast Asian salad shop Bandoola Bowl this spring, owner Aung Myint will expand his presence in the Georgetown neighborhood with Sticx, coming to 1728 Wisconsin Avenue NW this fall. Occupying a 2200-square foot, 20-seat space, the new fast-casual concept will explore the rich tradition of Asian street food, focusing on styles of barbecue from Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Burma, as well as sushi, all served on sticks. Myint also owns Burmese dining staple Mandalay in Silver Spring, Md. alongside three generations of family, and has a decades-long history owning, operating, and consulting restaurants in the DMV. He’ll work with longtime friend and business partner Kunakorn Sangkhankaw on developing the menu at Sticx as well. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Yesterday around 8:15 a.m., a dump truck going fast downhill toward a 33 bus stopped at Wisconsin and 34th Street veered off the road and onto the sidewalk, barreling across the sidewalk in front of Hardy Middle School and narrowly missing several pedestrians who scattered to get out of its way. The driver of the truck then briefly stopped on 34th and then continued southward. I called 911, as did others on the scene (I think). It’s unclear whether the driver lost control or drove into the sidewalk intentionally. No idea if police ever stopped the driver.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am saddened to report that driving by the former Neams grocery and Marvelous Market in Georgetown (corner of Wisconsin and P across from Thomas Sweet), I saw that this property is becoming a Chase bank.

This is such sad news as this property, though long vacant has so much potential including parking and outdoor seating space. Do people even go to banks anymore? This seems like such a waste of a neighborhood gem.” (more…)

sweetflow, sweetgreen’s beloved, fan-favorite frozen yogurt that disappeared off menus in 2014, made its return last year at The Tavern with a upgrade as the company partnered with local purveyor Dolcezza Gelato to make the frozen treat even more delicious. (more…)
