From an email:

“La Tomate Bistro announces La Tomate Caffè, opening summer 2014

La Tomate proudly launches a new concept within its historic Connecticut Avenue location. Family owned and operated since 1987, La Tomate will inaugurate La Tomate Caffè adjacent to its current Bistro – the first of many changes the restaurant will implement between 2014-2015.

Designed by Milan-based architect, Fillipo Taidelli, La Tomate Caffè will offer a Belle Epoque atmosphere with Italian inspired menu items.

Open from breakfast to late-night, the Caffè will serve brioche and homemade sweets, espresso, coffee drinks and fresh-pressed juices, traditional breakfast, artisanal-cut domestic and Italian charcuterie, panini and tramezzini, assortments of cheeses, mozzarella varieties, salads and light-fare.

A vast array of pre-packaged products, including La Tomate signature sauces and soups, as well as delicatessen treats, cocktails, wine and beer will be available all day.

The Bistro will remain a place for leisurely indoor and al fresco dining, while the Caffè offers carry out and quick lunch break or dinner options. Whether dining in or on the go, the Caffè at La Tomate, will offer fresh, affordable and delicious food in a cozy, Italian caffè setting.”

Back in May we learned a lot more about the GRK Fresh coming to 19th Street by Science Club:

“Among its select classic quick serve menu selections is GRK’s signature Yeero, as well as fresh, authentic Greek yogurt. Spelled phonetically to differentiate this signature classic Greek dish from the traditional gyro, GRK’s Yeero features meat seasoned and marinated in yogurt, and slow roasted by artisans in a rotisserie grill. The straightforward menu offers choice of lamb & beef, chicken, pork or vegetables served on a classic pita baked in wood stove oven or served on a plate. To top it off, GRK offers three distinct, yogurt-based tzatzikis: classic and zesty GRK, spicy kaftero, or basil infused prassino. Entrée salads or side choices like the Aegean slaw with red and green cabbage, carrots, onions and fresh herbs dressed in lemon vinaigrette are also offered. Everything on the menu uses the best local as well as international ingredients the market has to offer.”

It’ll actually be two levels with seating and ordering upstairs and more seating downstairs and on the front patio. I’m told they should be open in about three weeks and this is the first of 8-10 more coming (likely 4 in DC proper). You can check out their full menu here.

From DGS:

“Delicatessen After Dark is back. The fourth monthly cocktail club– Summer in the Catskills– will take place on Thursday, June 26th from 8pm to late at the DGS Bar. Come imbibe on $10 specialty cocktails with our extraordinary Bar Man Brian Zipin.

New York Jews spent their summers in the Catskill’s drinking by the pool, serenaded by legendary Jazz musicians and hectored by foul mouthed comedians. These summer oases in the Alleghenies shaped much of our drinking culture today.

Delicatessen After Dark is a celebration of the new delicatessen drinking culture inspired by our grandparent’s long nights in Lower East side taverns, winter getaways to Florida and jazzy escapades to the Catskills.

The news about Surfside opening in Dupont may have gotten even better – last night they tweeted:

“We are so excited to announce our newest Surfside ! Located at 1800 N street! #comingsoon #tacotime #24hours..”

Since I don’t think they’ll be opening tomorrow, it looks like the #24hours means they hope to be open 24 hours a day – which would be awesome. Stay tuned.
