One of James M. Goode’s “Best Addresses”, the Chastleton is an over 300 unit eight story building that covers an acre of land on 16th Street NW at R Street NW. Until about a decade ago it was all rental. The most recent developer transitioned the building to cooperative ownership. (more…)

“On 8/1 I lost a gold ring that looks like a little shield with small diamonds on it. It would have fallen off my hand around 9 AM walking down 21st Street NW from R to L (Dupont/West End area). Could also be on the 43 bus. Cash reward if found. It is very sentimental and I appreciate anyone who can help me find it. People can call or text me at 973-202-2192.”

Update from GoFundMe:

“I wanted to thank everyone for their help and support during my recovery. I also wanted to take a moment to thank MPD who has been able to shed some light on the incident. While my initial conclusions from the incident lead me to believe I was a victim of a crime, MPD was able to determine that this was indeed just an unfortunate accident. I want to thank MPD for helping me discover this, and I want to apologize to anyone who feels mislead by my initial assessment of the situation. Thank you all for your support.

If you would like your money back please contact GoFundMe. I understand and I honestly had no idea what happened at the time.”

Thanks to all who messaged about this GoFundMe campaign:

From a press release:

“Before prohibition, American lagers were flavorful, big beers that incorporated hearty ingredients like flaked maize that contributed a pleasant “grain-like” sweetness to the finished beer – something that’s typically missing in today’s mass-produced American lagers.

Once again this year, DC Brau has revived its Heurich’s Lager, a nod to Chr. Heurich Brewing Co.’s original recipe crafted with Michael Stein, Joshua Hubner and Peter Jones of Lost Lagers. (more…)

From a press release:

“GS Delicatessen & Specialty Bar, the new-school delicatessen from cousins and fourth generation Washingtonian’s Nick and David Wiseman, is now open for breakfast seven days a week.

Chef Eric McKamey, who recently joined DGS from acclaimed Mintwood Place, has created a menu celebrating the classic delicatessen, featuring bagel sandwiches, breakfast plates, sandwiches and seasonal specials. The new menu also features an extensive list of housemade sodas and a full coffee and espresso program.

DGS will start selling its housemade provisions, including meats, mustard, pickles, hot sauce and more to go. As always, DGS will feature only the best ingredients: sustainably raised meats and produce from local farms.

After 5 years in operation, David and Nick Wiseman have learned that there is deep nostalgia for the classic delicatessen experience, and our new menu is crafted in that spirit. The menu is a retrospective on the “best of” delicatessen.

Ed. Note: In November 2014 the Komi building was damaged by fire.

Blair reports:

“About 11:50pm tonight (Sunday), during the craziest part of the rain storm I heard a really loud buzzing noise. I saw my lights flicker so looked out the window to see white flames shooting out (in time with the buzzing) from underneath the stairs below Komi at Happy Cleaner.

I immediately called 911 and the fire department arrived within 2 minutes. The fire never got out of the basement level.

It’s been over an hour and Pepco is now on the scene. After the first five minutes the vibe appears to be calm and under control. Happy to report the FD was super quick to respond.

You can see the electrical flame filling the basement area.”
