From a press release:

“On Friday, November 13, at one of DC’s busiest intersections, the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District will unveil four wooden sculptures designed by local artist Foon Sham. The public will have the opportunity to meet the artist on-site from noon – 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. Located in the urban rain gardens on all four corners of 19th and L Streets NW, these sculptures are the first in a new series of temporary art in the rain gardens, which will rotate on an annual basis.

Built from more than 3,700 pieces of wood, the sculptures resemble vessels used to collect water, and are symbolic of the function of the rain gardens, which is to keep excess rainwater from entering the sewer system. “The sculptures bring natural elements to an unexpected place. They complement the function of the rain garden and contrast the busy urban intersection,” said Sham.”

I’m told The Little Beet is opening Monday in the former Pei Wei space next to 18th Street Lounge.

“All of our ingredients are carefully sourced from farmers and purveyors we trust, so you can too. We firmly believe what grows together, goes together. All of The Little Beet’s menu items are 100% gluten-free. But more importantly, they are also 100% guiltin’ free. Good food never tasted so good!”

You can see their menu here.

Reasonable or not?

For those who find it reasonable or just want a crepe for lunch at the regular price – you can see Crepeaway’s menu here.

UPDATE from Crepeaway:

“Hello everyone- my name is saad. I am the owner of crepeaway restaurant.

I want to make it clear that crepeaway does NOT charge double during late night hours.

What the poorly written sign is trying to say is that we close at 4am on Friday and Saturday. Sometimes people walk in at 415am. They want service. We tell these customers that if they want us to stay later, then we have to charge THEM double. Let me also point out that the funds that come from these patrons go straight into the tip jar…

I’m sorry this was misunderstood.

Kind regards sj 2024134822”

EaterDC reports the “restaurant’s last day of business will be New Year’s Eve”:

“It’s been a long road for D.C. Coast, which opened back in June of 1998. At the time, K Street was a very different place. “At nine o’clock, it would be prostitutes everywhere; they just came out of the woodwork,” he said. He remembers a time when partner Gus DeMillo chased a group of working ladies down the street, brandishing a giant pepper mill.”

They also note the return of TenPenh (the old space is now the recently opened Tadich Grill) to the hinterland:

“The company will bring back its pan-Asian restaurant, which closed in 2011, in a new format, this time in Tysons Corner.”
