Update from MPD: “The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of Fairmont Street NW. An adult male has sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was transported to an area hospital by private vehicle.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

“On April 25, 2020 at approximately 8:40 pm, officers from the First District responded to the Unit Block of N Street SW for a report of a shooting. On the scene, officers located two adult male victims and began to render aid. Both victims had gunshot wounds to their lower extremities and were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to alert the public that Target in Columbia Heights is not following the city’s guidelines on masks.

I just left there and few customers and even fewer employees were wearing masks. When I questioned the people working the door, they said that it wasn’t Target’s policy to turn away unmasked customers and that if I had a problem, I could shop elsewhere. (more…)

NS reported: “Saw a huge flash followed immediately by a huge boom that shook me on my couch. At 14 & Irving facing the alley way.”

Many, many others confirm: “Just heard big explosion in Columbia Heights DC at 10:37pm”

“my ears are ringing and my head is throbbing. it happened in my alley in columbia heights.”

“Same, shook on the couch, also facing that alley. Didn’t see flash as blinds were closed.”

DCFD investigated but “A short time ago, #DCsBravest investigated a report of an explosion heard in the Columbia Heights area. A search of the neighborhood found no evidence of an explosion or fire.”

DCFD reported: “Crash with rollover 16th & Irving Sts NW. Vehicle on its side. No entrapment. #DCsBravest assessing any injuries.”

Jonathan reports: “16th Street is shut down at Irving, about a dozen police cars, fire trucks and ambulances. A car flipped onto its roof on the sidewalk.” (more…)

Would you or a reader know what happened last night around 2am at the 3800 block of 14th NW? at 3:30, it was over but there were multiple fire trucks and a horrible smell of burn that is still present in my flat several hours later…”

DCFD reported: “Update Box Alarm 3800 block 14th St NW. #DCsBravest have extinguished fire on 2nd floor of vacant structure. No injuries. Fire investigators called to scene.”

Update from MPD:

“Good evening. At approximately 3:50pm, officers from the Third District were on patrol in the area of 13th and Columbia Rd NW when they heard the sounds of gunshots. The officers observed a moped exit the area at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop the operator to investigate. The vehicle fled from the officers who pursued it with the assistance of our Air Support Unit. Ultimately, the moped was stopped in the area of 3rd and F Streets NE where the operator was apprehended. Fortunately, there were no accidents or injuries as a result of this pursuit. (more…)
