Thanks to Jeff for sending the new window signage at old Palena space in Cleveland Park. Back in January we reported that School of Rock would be coming here:

“For over a decade, School of Rock has taught guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and keys through an innovative performance-based method. Students are put through a series of private lessons and group rehearsals and then get to show off what they learn on real rock stages to real rock audiences.”

Update from their website:

A reader reported yesterday afternoon: “I heard a rumor that the famous uptown theatre is closing down. Is this true?? That theatre is famous to anyone who has lived and grew up in Washington DC. From Superman to Star Wars this theatre has been a showplace to many people both in the city and all over the DMV.” (more…)

From a press release:

“2020 marks the 30th anniversary of local retailer Proper Topper, which will commemorate the occasion with Throwback Thursday happy hours, weekly drawings, pop-up sales, and a big celebratory bash in June. What began as a hat shop in historic Union Station – drawing famous hat lovers from Fugazi to the Clintons to the Queen of England – has evolved into a thriving neighborhood institution with two locations, devoted customers, and a diverse collection of goods far beyond just hats. Thanks to all who reported on Saturday. Meyer wrote: “Around 9am this morning, driving up Woodley Rd and passing Reno, we came upon an incredible outpouring of dirty brown water. A water main had just broken, between Reno and 35th, and water was forcing its way up through a manhole and even the roadway itself, where the street had buckled in two places. DC fire arrived on the scene a few minutes later and WASA was en route.”

On Sunday morning Alert DC reported: “DC Water reports the emergency repairs have been completed and water has been restored to the affected customers outage in the 3200-3400 blocks of Woodley Road NW and the 3100-3200 blocks of 33rd Place NW.”

Thankfully it’s been fixed now but have to share this wild video of the break too: (more…)

“Porter Street, NW. Cars hit were in direction of rock creek/beach drive!”

A reader reports:

“Monday night at 1am a metro bus collided into 11 parked cars on Porter Street. I woke up at 1am to a huge crash and looked outside my window from my apartment building on Quebec Street, but didn’t see anything but the top of the metro bus. I found out this morning from my apartment building that the bus collided into the cars. I don’t know how much damage happened but I haven’t been able to find any information besides what my apartment building had sent the residents. I don’t know if anyone was hurt on the bus but sounds like so far just cars were damaged.”
