Check out Honeygrow’s menu here.  Coming this Winter.

“guests can customize suggested stir-frys, salads + honeybars or create their own. As the “honest eating + growing local” tagline proclaims, these new locations will feature locally + seasonally sourced ingredients, noodles prepared freshly by ramen chefs, housemade dressings + sauces, and proteins sourced from providers including Creekstone Farms and FreeBird. The “local” component also extends into the community; each location will feature custom commissioned artwork by D.C. area visual artists.”

From WMATA:

“Metro GM/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld announced that a valuation analysis of the Jackson Graham Building, Metro’s downtown D.C. Headquarters, has been done. The findings are that the building is valued between $56 million and $132, depending on what density a rezone of the property would allow.

Proceeding with the General Manager’s Customer Accountability Report (CARe) initiative to review the upside of selling the Jackson Graham Building, Wiedefeld enlisted a commercial real estate advisory firm, Jones Lang LaSalle, to conduct a valuation of the 48,041 square foot property.

The report includes a range of current market values for the property and identifies various scenarios that maximize its worth—from a baseline scenario of renovating the existing structure (which renders the lower end of the value range, at $56 million), to demolition and redevelopment from the ground up for future commercial uses (the highest likely value estimated at $132 million).

Adjacent to the Verizon Center and proximate to two Metrorail stations, the sale of the 600 Fifth Street, NW site is prime for a top-of-the-market commercial or residential development. However, current zoning has Metro as the only permitted use of the site. If Metro were to stay in the building, it would need to expend an estimated $75 million to $90 million to replace almost every major building system (plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical, fire/life safety), all of which are at the end of their useful life. “Dear PoPville,

Has anyone written in about MLK Library / G Street lately?

This was never a great street, I’ve been working near here for 12 years. But in the last six months it has gotten insane.

I’ve seen two guys being attended to by Fire/EMS for ODing in the last month. Both times drug deal were still going down within 10 feet of the medics. This is all in the middle of the day during lunch.

I don’t know if it’s synthetic drugs or something else. But addicts down there have gone from mellowed out and sitting in the shade, to full on aggressive/crazy, running around screaming.

The DEA DC field office is 2 blocks south of here, yet it’s a virtual open air drug market during work hours.”

9th and F Street, NW

Late last summer we learned that New York City’s excellent The Smith would be taking over the space.

The Smith’s website says:

The Smith is a casual American Brasserie with three upbeat locations in New York City: The Smith East Village, overlooking bustling Third Avenue, The Smith Midtown, in the heart of Manhattan, located on 51st Street and Second Avenue and The Smith Lincoln Center directly across from historic Lincoln Center.

Utilizing local products and purveyors, the breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner menus feature a selection of familiar bistro dishes. Signature dishes at all locations include Crispy Fried Calamari “Brooklyn Style,” Pot of Mussels with chardonnay-dijon broth and perfectly cooked hand cut fries and four different cuts of steak prepared char broiled, served with a choice of homemade sauces including béarnaise, green peppercorn and chimichurri. Most of the desserts are fun twists on classics, including Sticky Toffee Pudding, S’mores in a Jar and Hot Fudge Sundae with almond bark and flourless chocolate cake.

Our bars offer an elaborate menu of classic and signature cocktails made with fresh fruit and herbs. We serve seven local hand crafted beers on tap and have a selection of 20 wines available by the glass or carafe as well as a hand selected bottle list.

The crowd at The Smith is eclectic, attracting after-work colleagues, late-night revelers, families for Sunday brunch and more. Our guests come for all occasions – a drink after work, a quick bite before a movie, a business dinner, or to celebrate a birthday.

You can see their NYC menus here.

Initial occupancy for the hotel is expected in the first quarter of 2019.

In addition, Hines, Qatari Diar and Conrad Hotels & Resorts are pleased to announce that Chef Bryan Voltaggio, of Fredrick, MD, will be the signature chef for the hotel restaurant, responsible for the concept and menu.
