“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone know when or if Hunan Dynasty is reopening? Odd that there has been zero reports on such a popular place.”

While their website is still live, phone calls go unanswered.

On November 17th DC Fire & EMS reported:

“Fire at 200blk of Pennsylvania Ave SE extinguished. Units on scene, checking for extension. No injuries reported at this time.”

Ed. Note: I had to scroll from today to November to look up this old tweet (twitter really needs a better search function) and it really is extraordinary seeing all the rescue/responses they’ve made. Serious, serious props to DCFD. Don’t ever want to take these folks for granted.

“Dear PoPville,

DCPS has proposed a merger between Maury Elem and Miner Elem, which would really reshape elementary education options in Hill East. It’s because when DCPS redrew the boundaries a couple years ago, they made the Maury boundary bigger. Now it turns out, the Maury construction budget isn’t large enough to accommodate the influx of new kids. To make things worse, now DCPS is proposing this radical change, which would combine a high performing school with a very low performing school. DCPS is asking for parent feedback via this link.”

“Dear PoPville,

There has been a lot of talk about signs this week, so I thought I would flag what I believe to be an unfortunate set of signs that have been appearing around the Eastern Market construction. Photo above. Some neighbors have taken it upon themselves to create metal no parking signs in an attempt to scare workers from using street parking. Segments of my note to Charles Allen are below, including more detail. To Councilmember Allen’s credit, he reached out and asked that I connect with him on this, and I’m hopeful he will agree that this type of coordinated messaging has no place on our public streets and needs to stop.

The irony is that many of these signs are being strapped to street sign posts within line of sight of MLK quote signs that have been appearing in front yards throughout the neighborhood this week.

And an update since last week: while I appreciated Councilmember Allen’s initial response (publicly on twitter, of course) my attempts to connect with him privately have been met with radio silence.”

Dear Councilmember Allen: (more…)
