I took a sneak peek of the new Jackie Lee’s at 116 Kennedy Street, NW and it’s time to get excited. Given the space and the people involved I feel like this has the potential become the Red Derby/Wonderland for the neighborhood. This is a very good thing. Stay tuned and in the meantime they are hiring servers and cooks. Those interested can email resume to [email protected].

From an email:

Locale Workspace wants to know if Kennedy Street residents want a multi-use communal co-working space. One of the co-founders has lived in the neighborhood for over 4 years and wants to expand their current concept into a new space that embodies more communal access with other components in addition to co-working such as coffee/tea, food, books, events, etc.

The survey can be found here.”

709 Kennedy St, NW

Thanks to Mike for sending word about Culture Coffee. Back in March we thought they were opening a 2nd location in Fort Totten Square. Turns out they’re moving there. From their website:

“*****ANNOUNCEMENT: The Kennedy Street location is officially closed. Visit us at our new location 300 Riggs Rd. in September of 2017.*****”

“Dear PoPville,

I ran across some rather disturbing graffiti in the alley between Gallatin and Hamilton streets. Although the graphical representation of a noose isn’t the same thing as the physical nooses recently found at local schools, churches and museums, it’s nevertheless disturbing. It’s hard to interpret this as anything but the mark of hateful and poisonous ideals. I don’t know whether this particular defacement is meant to intimidate the residents of the property where it was found or is a random placement, but it’s troubling all the same, particularly as this is a residential neighborhood and the paint seems to be relatively fresh. I’m sending so that those in Ward 4 can remain watchful for individuals intent on divisive behavior within our midst.”

Any other possible interpretations?

A reader reports an incredibly disturbing event that happened 3am last night around Jefferson and Kennedy Street, NW. Ed. Note: I have the video but am only posting this still because I want to blur out the face.

“…a half naked woman was banging on my door at 3am. A man coaxed/pulled her away. I called the cops, they drove by once. Saw nothing. I went and checked my security cameras and got footage. Then called 911 2 more times. They never returned. I gave up 50 minutes later. I went out and looked and couldn’t find anyone. I was up until 4:10am waiting and they never came back. I told the operator I had footage of this. It’s insane.”
