Following the opening Rosario’s Tacos & Tequila, comes word of more potential taco options for Adams Morgan. Almost exactly a year ago Rumba Cafe closed after almost 20 years in Adams Morgan. Now I hear that a “Mexican concept” is coming to the space. I give this scuttlebutt an 80% accuracy rating. STAY TUNED.

“A year ago, plus a few months, a friend asked me if I would be interested in purchasing one of our favorite Adams Morgan watering holes, The Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan. As a longtime patron and diehard fan of craft beer, I couldn’t resist. Now, as the neighborhood has changed, we feel it is time for us to make a change as well. On July 31st The Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan will open its doors for the last time as preparation begins to remodel the space and release a new concept to the Adams Morgan Neighborhood, Seasons & Sessions, in early September. Seasons & Sessions builds on the legacy The Black Squirrel established in D.C., while upgrading our dining areas and kitchen, Seasons, and expanding our nightly entertainment Sessions.
For over a decade, The Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan has been a mainstay of craft beer; one of the first of its kind in the whole city and still the record holder for most tap lines in D.C. (more…)

“Our bartender at Pitchers just told us they’re opening up a lesbian bar in the basement called A League of Her Own and I’m shook. Coming this summer.
It’d be the only lesbian bar in the city.”
On June 19th Pitchers DC posted:
“We are so happy to announce that Jo McDaniel will be joining the Pitchers Team. She will eventually run “A league of her own”. Here is a little about Jo.
Jo McDaniel has been creating a safe space in the LGBTQ bar scene in the DC area for 13 plus years. Since 2005, she has been that queer chick behind the stick at some of DC’s most relevant gay bars.
Earlier this month she won Stoli’s Key West Cocktail Classic after being the first woman to win the regionals in DC. She’s bringing $10,000 back home to Casa Ruby as well as winning $5,000 for AH Monroe, a Key West charity dedicated to providing resources for HIV and AIDS.
Jo is excited to be joining our bartending team and will be managing A League of Her Own, our queer women’s space, slated to open at the end of July.”

A reader reports: “a new pizza place in what was most recently Lilise Pizzeria.”
Previously this space has also been home to Pitazzi, Cafe Arte, and 90 Minute Cafe. Wishing Myth Pizza lots of luck!

Update from Zenebech:
“We regret to inform you that our plans to reopen in July will be extended into August.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. We are pushing to have repairs completed as soon as possible.”
Zenebech has been closed since December when a fire gutted next door neighbor #1 Juicy-Cajun Seafood, damaging Zenebech. Zenebech Injera had only recently reopened, after moving from Shaw, in August 2017. Updates when they get a firm reopening date.

Update: It’s definitely gonna be a sports bar. Word on the street is they’ll be open for the World Cup.
On the heels of Pitchers DC opening in the old Brass Monkey space comes word from the Adams Morgan Listserv that Habana Village has also become a sports bar:
“I went by Habana Village today and noticed there is a new sports bar there (something we badly need, of course). When did that happen?”

THE ESTABLISHMENT STILL UNDER RENOVATIONS AND WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL THE END OF JUNE, 2018.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT AND WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENT.
THE ADMINISTRATION”
Their website also still says: “DUE TO REMODELING THE ESTABLISHMENT WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL JUNE, 2018.”
Maybe they’ll temporarily be a sports bar for the World Cup and then return to regular Habana Village? Anyone hear what’s up?
