“Petworth Library to Close for Renovation in December”

From the DC Public Library:

“DC Public Library will begin renovating the Petworth Library on Friday, Dec. 12. The goal of this renovation is to maintain the existing facility and provide a refresh that will ensure the library continues to meet evolving neighborhood needs. The library is working with Chiaramonte Construction Company and Moya Design Partners for design and construction.

Petworth Library will temporarily close for this project. The last full day of service will be Thursday, Dec. 11.

Our Little Free Library, which sits in front of the Alma Thomas House at 1530 15th St NW, has been featured a few times on PoPville, and we really appreciate the Logan Circle neighborhood’s enthusiasm for the library and for our curation efforts. “The Banned Wagon Coming to DC: Free Banned Books for the Community”

“WHAT: The Banned Wagon provides hundreds of free copies of banned or challenged books to community members on their tour. Guests will be able to select one book for free (while supplies last). In addition to the free copies of those books, attendees will be able to take further action by sending a note to local representatives through Penguin Random House’s partnership with EveryLibrary.

Donated her high school copy of The Handmaid’s Tale to one of the little libraries in Mount Pleasant – any chance one of your readers reading this found and read it?? EXCLUSIVE Little Free Library Mystery: Did Marco Rubio (or staff) drop a signed Larry Csonka book at a LFL near the Cotco?!? Maybe

“Dear PoPville,

Someone dropped a copy of Larry Csonka’s memoir in our Little Free Library last week. For those not well versed in 1970s NFL he’s a very important football person who played for Miami.

We have a Dolphins fan in our extended family, so we grabbed it to take a look, and it turns out it was signed by the author! But we can’t quite tell who it’s addressed to.

Then we found a card tucked inside the pages with a picture of (what we now know to be) the Florida state capitol….weird, but ok. Opened the card, and it was a birthday note from 2023 to then-Senator Marco Rubio. And now clearly see the inscription in the book says “To Marco Rubio.” (more…)
