From the DC Public Library:
“DC Public Library will begin renovating the Petworth Library on Friday, Dec. 12. The goal of this renovation is to maintain the existing facility and provide a refresh that will ensure the library continues to meet evolving neighborhood needs. The library is working with Chiaramonte Construction Company and Moya Design Partners for design and construction.
Petworth Library will temporarily close for this project. The last full day of service will be Thursday, Dec. 11.
Project Goals
The project will reconfigure the library’s layout and upgrade its systems to better serve the community. The new design thoughtfully and cohesively re-envisions the library’s furniture, finishes, and material palette, along with improved power, data, and lighting. It will include:
Relocating Adult and Youth Services to separate floors—Adult Services will move to the Ground Level, and Teen Services to the Upper Level.
New flooring, wallcoverings, and furniture throughout the building.
Additional upgrades will include
Acoustical Panels
Improved Signage
Water Bottle Refill Station
Select window replacements
An upgraded Building Automation System (BAS). A BAS is a system that allows heating and cooling settings to be controlled centrally.
The Interim Library for the Petworth Library during the renovation is the Mt. Pleasant Library. It is located at 3160 16th St. NW
