Our Little Free Library, which sits in front of the Alma Thomas House at 1530 15th St NW, has been featured a few times on PoPville, and we really appreciate the Logan Circle neighborhood’s enthusiasm for the library and for our curation efforts. What we don’t appreciate is the periodic vandalism. A few years ago,
the glass was shattered. Earlier this year, not too long after PoPville featured our chalkboard sign announcing that we’d passed 5,000 books borrowed, the sign board was stolen. Yesterday, for reasons unknown, someone destroyed the wooden latch and yanked the post sufficiently hard that the whole structure now leans perilously forward. We’ll be repairing it, again, but we wish that wasn’t necessary. We truly cannot imagine what would drive someone to deliberately damage a pure, free good made available as a resource for the community. And for the record, earlier this month, we passed another milestone: 6,000 books have found new homes from the Little Free Library at the Alma Thomas House. We’d have posted a sign about it on our chalkboard but…”
