“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to you because my housemates and I are in desperate need of some assistance. On July 4th, I came home and discovered our home had caught fire because one of our reckless and careless housemates was setting off illegal fireworks in front of our home. Myself and my other two roommates, who were not home at the time, have lost everything we own except the clothes on our backs and our fur babies. Unfortunately no one had renter’s insurance, so we are really going thru a difficult time.

Myself and the other two ladies all work in the hospitality industry here in DC and we are really hoping that you could help us. We have started a GoFundMe page to help collect donations so we can find a new place to live and purchase the essentials. (more…)

Connecticut and Ordway Street, NW

Ed. Note: I stopped by to get these photos yesterday and it was the biggest emergency response I have ever seen. These photos don’t do justice to how many responders where there. There were at least two ladder truck, 3 or 4 pumper trucks, multiple police cars, and other fire department vehicles.

Thanks to Eric for passing on from St. Arnold’s Cleveland Park & The Abbey yesterday:

“Hey everyone! Unfortunately there was a large fire at our Cleveland park location this afternoon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We will be closed until further notice at Cleveland Park. (more…)

Ed. Note: So out of all the scooters available which do you prefer?

Thanks to Brooke for passing on:

“DC Riders,

We’d like to give you an update on our operations in DC.

We are suspending service for at least 30 days, complying with a DDOT order after informing them of an incident that occurred earlier today in our warehouse. There was a small fire in a storage area caused by a battery that had been previously removed from service. (more…)

DC Fire and EMS first reported at 2:34pm:

“#DCsBravest on scene of a structural collapse in the 1300 block 13th St NW. PIO enroute and will provide more information upon arrival.”

One reader speculates it was related to the F-35 fly by that happened around 2pm:

“It was super loud and I’m also pretty sure that the vibrations it was giving off (every building was shaking) contributed to the building collapse at 13/N NW. The building there was already super fragile and didn’t seem well supported for construction, and this was just the thing to push it.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what happened on the ellipse by the White House? When I walked by I saw a big fire, tons of smoke and a group of people standing around. It looked like a person of fire!? At the same time I hear police sirens and many showed up quickly. There must have been a fire truck too because the fire was quickly put on. The photo attached is right after it was put out. White House grounds were quickly closed down.”

Another reader reports: “Now hazmat pulling up at 15th and Constitution”

Update from U.S. Secret Service:

“At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid.”

Update:
