“NWS reports very poor air quality today, which may be unhealthy for people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens. Reduced visibility is expected from 3-6PM. Wearing a mask may help limit irritation for those suffering from respiratory illnesses.

Avoid strenuous outdoor activities and keep any activity short. Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them. Additionally, residents can take these steps to reduce exposure: (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

I always thought that DC merely threw away its recyclables, but it was done behind the scenes. Today, the secret is out. Both green and blue bins dumped in same compactor. According to our maintenance man, it’s the second week in a row DC sanitation has done this. The excuse? “Not enough manpower, not enough trucks.” This was the answer provided by DC Sanitation worker.”


From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin the annual spraying of the female ginkgo street trees on Monday, May 1, 2023. The spraying will occur overnight from 9:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The annual spraying serves to reduce the formation of mature ginkgo fruit, which emits an offensive smell when it falls on sidewalks and roadways. (more…)

This makeshift landfill appeared just off Whitehaven Trail (behind the Safeway on Wisconsin Ave). Someone seems to be dumping and possibly sorting trash here. There’s no vehicle access, so they must be carrying the garbage bags down the trail — very strange! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve recently moved to a building that controls the switch between A/C and heat and they are refusing to turn on the A/C prior to the May 15th date that’s mandated by DC law. My apartment has been above 80 degrees for over two days despite fans running, blinds closed, and every other measure I could take to mitigate the heat inside my unit. In addition, DC Public Schools are also dealing with this and students are expected to learn in classrooms that are also over 80 degrees. (more…)
