Alamo Drafthouse coming:

“Alamo Drafthouse Cinema today announced its first Washington, D.C. location at MRP Realty’s Bryant Street development along the Rhode Island Avenue corridor. The 44,000 square-foot theater is set to open in 2019 and is the fourth theater for franchisee Cojeaux Cinemas.”

Ribbon Cut for new Entertainment and Sports Arena in the Congress Heights; “4,200-Seat Venue Will Be a Hub for Sports, Entertainment, and More”

“Mayor Bowser and Events DC cut the ribbon on the Entertainment and Sports Arena in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Ward 8. The new venue in the sports capital will be the home of the Washington Mystics and the Capital City Go-Go, the NBA G-League team, as well as the official practice facility for the Washington Wizards. The Entertainment and Sports Arena will also serve as a world-class destination site that will host cultural and community events for residents and visitors across all eight wards. (more…)

DC Parks and Rec appears to have moved out of their space in the 1300 block of S Street. I’m concerned about what happens next with this space. I recall Studio Theatre and other local businesses have pushed for a parking structure in the past. Of course, it’s a great space to develop, but at what cost to the existing traffic and neighbors? A large building would completely block sun from all of the yards along T St and 13th.

Any intel on what the city plans to do? And what kind of input can neighbors have?”

Went by the new “Trellis House” apartment building (Sherman Ave & Barry Place) this morning and saw Bozzuto had put out a bunch of signs, so I looked it up.

Ground Broken On Three Multi-Purpose Recreational Fields on the RFK Stadium Campus

“Mayor Bowser today was joined by Events DC, the District’s convention and sports authority, to break ground on the multi-purpose recreational fields that begin the RFK Campus redevelopment plan. Construction will begin in September 2018 and the fields are expected to open for play in March 2019.

“The community has waited a long time to see this land put to good use, and today, we are all proud to get this project started,” said Mayor Bowser. “When these fields are complete, this will be the community space our residents deserve. Here at RFK, Washingtonians will have it all – the amenities of a big city, access to a thriving waterfront, and fantastic outdoor fields and play space.”

The groundbreaking will transform nearly 27 acres of asphalt into three new state-of-the-art artificial turf fields with community amenities. (more…)
