“In a city full of architectural history, we are building City Ridge at one of the district’s most storied sites,” said Richard Lake, principal of Roadside Development. “The name City Ridge not only reflects the site’s geographical location at one of the highest points in the city, but brings to mind the aesthetic that makes this area of DC so special: It’s where the city meets nature. City Ridge will be a neighborhood that looks to the future while respecting its key architectural elements.”

The name originates from the site’s location on Wisconsin Avenue, a geological ridgeline that separates the two stream valleys of Rock Creek Park to the east and Foundry Branch to the west. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Bowser released the following statement on Amazon HQ2:

Amazon in Arlington is a win for DC. We will continue preparing residents with the skills and knowledge they need for the jobs of the future, including at Amazon.

“We know that this opportunity will push us to work together on our biggest challenges like improving our transportation and infrastructure. We must continue our investment in safety, reliability, and capacity at Metro and find ways to enhance service, including late night service.

“We call on elected leaders in the region to come together and agree to a concrete goal for affordable and workforce housing. DC has been leading the way on affordable housing with unprecedented investment in preservation and production. In four years, we have invested $471 million with just one of our locally funded tools, the Housing Production Trust Fund.

“We offer our congratulations to Arlington and the Commonwealth of Virginia. We have always said that we would put our region and its people up against any other in the world. And as the federal government slows its growth, today’s announcement demonstrates that the technology sector will continue to flourish in our region as our economy diversifies.”

From Amazon:

“Amazon today announced that we have selected New York City and Arlington, Virginia, as the locations for our new headquarters. Amazon will invest $5 billion and create more than 50,000 jobs across the two new headquarters locations, with more than 25,000 employees each in New York City and Arlington. The new locations will join Seattle as the company’s three headquarters in North America. In addition, Amazon announced that it has selected Nashville for a new Center of Excellence for its Operations business, which is responsible for the company’s customer fulfillment, transportation, supply chain, and other similar activities. The Operations Center of Excellence in Nashville will create more than 5,000 jobs.

The new Washington, D.C. metro headquarters in Arlington will be located in National Landing, and the New York City headquarters will be located in the Long Island City neighborhood in Queens. (more…)

Thanks to all for messaging me this Washington Post article:

“Amazon.com has held advanced discussions about the possibility of opening its highly sought-after second headquarters in Crystal City, including how quickly it would move employees there, which buildings it would occupy and how an announcement about the move would be made to the public, according to people close to the process.”

From WMATA:

“Metro has selected L’Enfant Plaza as the home for its new, centrally located headquarters building, the authority announced today. This week, Metro will begin a process to seeking final approval to purchase 300 7th Street SW – an existing, vacant office structure – as the replacement for its current HQ, the outmoded Jackson Graham Building in Northwest.

Formerly known as the Reporter’s Building, the new Metro HQ site will be stripped to its structural concrete and completely renovated to modern workplace standards, including new commercial amenities on the ground floor to activate the streetscape and benefit the surrounding community. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I walked by the former Dancing Crab building last night and noticed there is a proposal for a zone change from MU-4 to MU-5B to allow for a 80 foot building. Checked the ANC 3E website for more info, and there’s a resolution in support of this zone change, provided the developer provides “amenities” to the neighborhood. (more…)

Thanks to David for passing on from the Brookland Listserv:

“Tony Lee at Lee’s Auto service at 3315 8th ST NE is closing down permanently. Their last day of service is October 31st.

My wife who worked with him as the receptionist for 10 years just recieved word from Tony Lee himself.

He plans to retire after 40 years of service and has sold the land to The Menkiti group, since they had the 1st right of refusal.

Please wish Tony Lee and his team good luck before they close and most of all a big thanks for all the years of service.”

Will ATS’ new Ivy City location be the best remaining mechanic in D.C.? Anyone use Guarani Auto Body Shop (4100 Kansas Ave, NW) in Petworth?
