Interesting – didn’t they just do some upgrades not too long ago? With the recent sale of the 3 AU buildings and the development across the street, there are some big changes coming to Tenleytown.

What I heard (years ago) from a waitress was they were under new management and planning to convert to a more upscale restaurant e.g. multiple floors with a sliding roof. It would appear the new owner(s) bit off a little too much and choked.

It was never the same after they moved out of their old spot. Especially the Malt Shop.

I saw this sign the other day and it made me so sad. Did it ever reopen after it closed for renovations?

The Dancing Crab has stopped dancing…fixed it for you.

So close to MD and DC has no real sit down crab house. i know I would go a few times a summer if there were one.

Damn! Had a few roommates wait tables at the original, and partied like crazy upstairs at The Malt Shop. RIP Dancing Crab :(

I’m really sorry to hear that. I had some of the best times of my life in that building, first in high school when it was The Lodge and later after that closed, as the Dancing Crab. My friend Fred Norris who owned the Rabbits Foot down the street originally opened the place. It was a great place to run into some of the Redskins players and the Malt Shop was a great dive when the word really meant something.

I’ve lived in Sydney, Australia for a decade now, try to get back to my DC hometown once a year or so. First Millie & Al’s and now this. Useta catch a film across the street, party at the Malt Shop, catch Steak and Egg when they opened. Now if Harry’s goes I’ll have no reason to return…
