“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to find out whether any of your readers have any advice on the most effective way to petition WMATA to change its policy regarding strollers on its buses. I recently had a horrible experience on a bus with my stroller and would like to find out why WMATA does not allow unfolded strollers on its buses, as many other metropolitan cities do. I understand from a September 2018 GGW article that WMATA may have considered changing its policy for umbrella strollers but either has not yet, or decided not to. Any advice? See my complaint to WMATA below. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to send along a frustrating saga of a developer getting its way by blocking roads in my neighborhood daily.

The condo construction site, at 6th and Wiltberger Streets NW, constantly blocks the entire width of Wiltberger. This means traffic — or if an emergency happens, first responders — can’t get through for the entire block. This has been happening daily, and the portable crane that lifts drywall and other materials into the new nearby condos have no permits, per DDOT’s searchable tool. (more…)

Ed. Note: I imagine every single restaurant/bar will have it on TV for the brunch question but for the kids – anyone know if Dupont Circle will have an outdoor screen? Any other suggestions for those with kids?

“Dear PoPville,

We’ve been following the Women’s World Cup and would love to watch the final surrounded by fans! Does anyone have some good recommendations of kid friendly watch parties happening in DC on Sunday? The kids are preschool/elementary age and we love something with a little food so we could keep them munching throughout the game.

Any thoughts? Would love an electric atmosphere to see the women bring home a championship!”

Andrew wonders if “maybe there will be an outdoor watch party?”

Mina also asks: “Can y’all tell us where we can get brunch Sunday and watch the championship game this will be vital crucial information as the game is at 11 AM THANKS”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m curious if any of your readers have knowledge when it comes to tenants’ rights and AC. My apartment building was unable to provide air conditioning for the entire month of May, couldn’t/wouldn’t provide status updates, and inside temperatures reached the high 80s on numerous occasions. During the outage, they said they would provide tenants with information on rent abatement, then recently notified us that they discussed it and would not be providing any rent abatement with no explanation provided. “Dear PoPville,

We’re looking for recommendations for a company to build a fence around my row house back yard. We had previously booked a well-regarded, but *notoriously* flakey fence builder. And, yeah, he flaked. It’s been months since we hired him and no progress. Bummer, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Moving on with life. Can anyone recommend a well-regarded, non-flakey fence builder? Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

For the last month DC has let an abandoned car with smashed windows and dozens of tickets sit and rot while partially blocking traffic in Ivy City, on Gallaudet St, (right near Gravitas and the Hecht Warehouse). Repeated calls to 311 from many residents have yielded no results, though the city posted a warning that the car would be towed back at the start of June. Wishful thinking with no follow-up. It’s still there.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have absolutely no interest in attending or giving attention to Trump’s narcissistic and bloviating hijacked 4th of July event this year. While I try to find a spot in the city to watch fireworks every year, this time, I’d rather head to one of the surrounding towns or parks in MD or VA. Can I get some suggestions on the places with other great 4th of July events and fireworks displays?”

“Dear PoPville,

Yesterday around 8:15 a.m., a dump truck going fast downhill toward a 33 bus stopped at Wisconsin and 34th Street veered off the road and onto the sidewalk, barreling across the sidewalk in front of Hardy Middle School and narrowly missing several pedestrians who scattered to get out of its way. The driver of the truck then briefly stopped on 34th and then continued southward. I called 911, as did others on the scene (I think). It’s unclear whether the driver lost control or drove into the sidewalk intentionally. No idea if police ever stopped the driver.”
