“Dear PoPville,

I am planning to replace my garage door for my rowhouse in summer this year – the current one is quite old and is apparently on its last legs. I am debating whether to get another standard painted white/beige door, or get one of the slightly nicer ones. I live in Shaw, and I have noticed some new nicer garage doors around newly renovated homes, and they look really nice. But one concern with garage doors of course is possible graffiti damage. “Dear PoPville,

I’m sure you remember hearing the story back in 2018 of the young homeless kid who was being confronted by police with a gun, and then saved by a woman – Anthony Williams.

A go fund me was set up, that raised over $25k.

I contributed and often looked back to find out more about how his life may be going, but never found much. (more…)

The beloved, original, 11th street chicken first spotted back in 2008

“Dear PoPville,

I’m a first time house owner and now have a back yard big enough to fulfil my Millennial dreams of urban homesteading. What are the regulations in DC around having chicken coops? I’ve been reading mixed messages from the city, the DOH and other sources. If you currently raise chickens, take me through how you’ve done it. If you tried and failed, what happened?

Ed. Note: There was an epic battle back in 2017. Alas: “Chickens Emerge Victorious!” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I find myself in need of a health coach to help get control of my emotional eating and to have someone that can encourage me to adopt better habits. I would like someone that can also recommend articles and books that will help. In checking I note that there are Integrative Health Coaches in DC that have the training and background. Can anyone recommend a health coach in DC that they have used or know. I am confused and unable to distinguish one listing from another.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was summoned to Grand Jury back in December which was to begin in February. I deferred it to May since it’s for a month. Then yesterday I was summoned for Petit Jury in February for 2 weeks. I mean come on, what are the odds of both Grand and Petit Jury in one year let alone within a month between summons?

Luckily if I’m picked for Petit Jury, I can be excused for Grand Jury! But had to share this crazy situation!”

Ed. Note: You can see the poll results for the last time you were called for jury duty here.

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have any advice on how to reach out to a package thief? Has anyone been able to get a package back? Find a stolen package? I’m at 18th and T NW, and a package disappeared that contained family heirloom pillowcases from Turkey — they looked like the above. I’m sure a package thief was disappointed and tossed them. Or are things being sold somewhere? Can I find it somehow? Any thoughts?”

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend is going through the process of buying a house, but so many sales are the unit splits that seem like shoddy construction. While he is trying to avoid those types of units in general, I do want to see if there are some renovators that do a good job at it (or rather those to avoid). Would love to hear of any positive/negative experiences so we can at least be more informed while searching!”

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard any reports of a man around LeDroit Park that will knock on doors, telling the story of how he is homeless and trying to start a job as a dishwasher but keeps missing his start date because he doesn’t have the right shoes? (more…)
