“Gold BMW gets hit- crosses traffic and rolls into grass. Guy in gold BMW gets out of car without shoes and bolts down the sidewalk (away from his car that’s still in drive with the music blasting).
Turns out, guy has a dog that had just gotten out of the hospital from a pit bull attack. (more…)
The man friend and I got to talking about what a post-covid world would look like as DC slowly reopens. I’m immuno-suppressed so we won’t be going out in this capacity any time soon, but assuming the restaurant/bar scenes will never recover or operate as they had in the past we got to discussing how some of them could adapt and survive/thrive.
We saw a few articles discussing how some restaurants plan to use mannequins and fake dolls to fill empty space, but how creepy is that and what a waste of space! I’d like to know what Popville thinks about the return of the “dinner theater” experience! Knowing tables will need to be spaced out for diners and concerts/art performances aren’t happening any time soon, wouldn’t a better use of the space be dining and listening to an entertainer (small band, two-person play, violinist, etc.) Surely there is no shortage of artists and talent in DC! I went for a socially distant walk alone on Saturday afternoon. Between my keys, phone, hand sanitizer, and other accruement that I had in my pocket, my card holder fell out of my pocket somewhere along my walk. It was a long walk and I’m not sure where it fell out. However, when I returned home, my wallet was propped up on the doorknob to my apartment. Some Good Samaritan had found it and delivered it back to me, (more…)
Someone stole my bike in Mount Pleasant last night, in front of the Dorchester house. I’m posting fliers and on next door, but I’m willing to pay a reward for its return. I don’t even care if you’re the person who stole it. I just really loved that bike. It’s a carbon track, 8 speed Miir”

My HOA and I have a question we were hoping PoPville could help us answer! Yesterday we were on our patios, which are usually very quiet considering how close we are to a major street, when it sounded like someone turned on a leaf blower or lawn mower. This is totally normal considering it was a beautiful day to do yard work, so we didn’t think much of it until the sound continued for about 5 hours straight. Upon a bit of investigation, it looks as if the building next to us installed a major industrial a/c unit that makes it sound like there is constantly a lawnmower running next door. (more…)
If folks encounter wildlife babies, such as young raccoons or young squirrels, it would be best to leave them alone (unless they are clearly injured). Well meaning individuals sometimes find young animals without a mother and make the mistake of thinking the young ones are orphaned. The mother is probably nearby or out searching for food. The animal’s best chance of survival is with the mother. (more…)
My fiancé and I are looking to purchase our first home and we’re looking into the DC Open Doors Program for loan, down payment, and closing cost assistance. My understanding is that the VA and MD programs may be not be offering grant assistance at this time due to the pandemic so I was curious if any readers had insight into the status of this program in DC, and whether DCHFA is still offering grants. We’ve gotten pre-qualified for a standard FHA loan, but would like to make sure that we’re taking advantage of any programs that we might also qualify for.”
How many emergency no parking signs do you need to cover a full block?
Example: On the 900 block of 1st St SE, there are two emergency no parking signs at the north end of the block (denoted with an “S” in the attached image) that claim they reserve all the spaces on the entire block. I was towed today from the other end of the block (the spot denoted with a C in the attached) for allegedly violating those signs. It seems nuts that a sign 150-200 feet away from my car could properly serve as notice that I can’t park there – but I don’t know what the actual threshold is.
Bonus Q: After I discovered my car was gone, I called 311 and went through the process to see if the city knew where I’d been towed to. They had no record of me being towed, (more…)
So an apartment adjacent to mine (apparently not a neighbor because we got the same email) has bed bugs! Our apartment building is doing a treatment barrier with a pest management company. Should I consider this writing on the wall?
Any tips? Should I start putting all my clothing now in plastic bags before it’s too late?”
I had a package delivered to my apt near 3rd and Rhode Island in Shaw with some family heirlooms in it. Unfortunately it was stolen off the front porch before I had a chance to grab it. In it were 3 Japanese Kokeshi dolls amongst some other items like clothes and food. Thanks for your help.”
“This print was stolen from my mail yesterday at 16th and Columbia St NW”
